Most Baptist churches autonomously partake in local/regional/state/national assemblies, the largest (I believe) being the Southern Baptist Convention. These assemblies have seminaries (like the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth Texas where my own grandfather his PhD in Ministry), Ordain ministers, and (to some extent) censure their members.

That said, any Church can choose to call itself 'Baptist" and ignore the existing Conventions/hierarchy. But then, same is true of any congregation that wants to call itself Catholic.
It’s true that anybody can call himself Catholic; anybody can call himself the Pope, as well (just ask Pope Pius XIII or Pope Michael).

Hey where can I watch that documentary online? Is it free?

I think what disturbs me most about this organization (I refuse to call it a church now) is that they make such a big splash and people will be like “That’s what Christianity is all about; taking the Bible and twisting it’s words around to suit your own agenda and needs.” and that is the message they’re sending. Their true message is not about hating homosexuals, America, soldiers etc. it’s about how you can take the only perfect book in existance and defile it with your own interpretation. It’s absolutely disgusting.

I think the thing that disturbs me the most is that they choose to protest at the actual funerals. I can’t believe they think nothing of adding to the pain the grieving family is feeling on that day they are laying their loved one to rest.

When my husband was deployed, I think I had the Patriot Riders on speed dial in case the worst ever happened…

More like a “cult”, methinks.

Calling them “Christian” is kinda like calling certain terrorist groups “Christian Terrorists”.

Nothing Christian about them, except they can quote (and misuse) scripture.

Of course, Satan knows scripture better than any of us do. 😉 Coincidence?
:sad_yes:
They are scum, nothing more. They do not represent Baptists, Calvinists, Protestants, the Church, Conservatives, or anything else that they purport to champion. Most of all, they do not represent God, for they do not know him at all. As for the OP’s questions about where they went wrong and why God allows their distortions: consider the OT history of the kingdoms after the death of Solomon. He allows evil to continue for a time, for purposes unknown to us. But He does not permit anyone to engage in vile perversions and blasphemies indefinitely.

Yes, the Patriot Riders. God bless them!

For those who don’t know about them:

They ride in procession with HUGE American flags to both visually and audibly shield the fallen soldier’s family from the WBC whackjobs.

What is funny is that Shirley Roper griping about people having sex out of wedlock, but yet at least one of her children was.

Cany anyone say “hypocrite”.

Absolutely!

Seems to me that the louder one shouts about the sins of others, the more they have to be ashamed for themselves.

I guess the best thing is to ignore them, or support folks like the Patriot Guard.

But see, I think she thinks it doesn’t count for her because she is a “prophetess of God”.

If you are familiar with them (and if not Google them, but do so at your own risk) what is your opinion? Protestants, where do you think the WBC went wrong? Why does God allow people like them to distort the Holy Bible in such a horrible way? 😦
i think that the head pastor, and patriarch of this family, should be arrested and tried for crimes against humanity, and child abuse, for taking his children and grand children and brainwashing them with his hatefilled fundamentalist, calvinistic propoganda. this dude is the devil. i feel sorry for his children who are now spokes persons, and his grand children. what he has done if not illegal, should be. you cannot do this to a persons mind and call it freedom of speech, religion, etc. peace:)
