Westboro Baptist sect and its fight on homosexuality.

Check out this Baptist sect and their persecution of homosexuals and families of our fallen soldiers.

Here is a local news report of good people standing up against them.

So what do you think? Insulting the families of fallen soldiers is OK? Persecuting homosexuals is Christian “love”? Is this a bigger issue then, oh, lets say, ah, abortion? Are they setting a Christian example? Is this what Jesus would do?

This is so extreme that I am going to guess that it is some sort of parody.:confused: There are extreme fundamentalists religious groups that do picket the funerals of homosexuals. This is, of course, disgusting.

I used to work with the guy that hosted/maintained their site. Unfortunate, but he did it because they paid him $500/mo. He didn’t really have any morals either, but hosted their site for the money. I couldn’t stand the guy that ran their site. They came to University of Wisconsin at Whitewater and picketed when a friend of mine was going to school there (he’s not gay, just went out there to make fun of them). Most of the people that are in that group are Phelps’ relatives, so the ‘church’ is mostly his family. Pretty sad, but what’re ya gonna do.

This site is NOT a parody like Landover Baptist church. This site is REAL with real Baptists. They routinely protest at military funerals in Oklahoma. I even linked a news channel story for proof.

I disagree. I wouldn’t call these people ‘real Baptists’, just like I wouldn’t call them ‘real Christians’. We have a pastor that’s a friend of the family who’s Baptist, very cool guy, doesn’t push his beliefs on anyone but will help you if you need help (without expecting anything in return).

I read the news link after I posted. It is just difficult to believe that anyone is so openly hateful.😦

Ditto. I was raised Baptist, and no Christian I know of any sect/denomination, would go overboard with such hatred. These people really do look like parodies of themselves…I guess it’s no joke, though. I can only pity them. :nope:
 
That’s Fred Phelps’ organization, & it doesn’t (as has been said), represent Baptists…Phelps is a way-out radical, who represents no one but his own delusional thinking.
He seems to hate everybody & everything…I just wish that I had the link that was posted here, sometime back, which exposes some of the goings on in his organization. He is a truly evil man, who is guilty of horrible abuse of his family, & he expounds hatred against anyone who does not follow him obediently…Which is to say: you & me.
The people that are innocent victims–think his children/grandchildren, etc–need a lot of our prayers, to heal the aftereffects of a lifetime exposed to him & his hatred.

Sadly, this is not a parody. This group exists. Thankfully, it is a very small body, made up mostly of the pastor’s relatives. However, they are kooks – and vicious kooks at best. They protested at several different churches here in Milwaukee last year.

This group is not affiliated with any of the major Baptist denominations. Here in Milwaukee, they even went after one of the local Baptist churches.

This group is definitely not the norm for any non-Catholic denomination. They use the Bible in a twisted way to use against people that are different than they are. They are the poster child for Christianity gone wrong. It’s morally reprehensible that this group acts and believes as they do.

True. This is a rogue group of half-wits that have let their hearts be darkened by the hatred of Fred Phelps. It’s obviously wrong for them to behave this way, however they don’t speak nor represent Baptists any more than John Kerry represents true Catholic beliefs.

This group came to my high school in New Hampshire to protest the fact that the student-chosen “class couple” for the yearbook was two girls.

It’s things like this that made it difficult for me to see the truth about homosexuality for so long. My reaction to that hate was to reach out in compassion. It’s so sad!
 
As a non-Christian, these people are very obviously well outside mainstream Christianity. If they weren’t so sad they might be funny. See Ronald Reagan is in HELL.

I much prefer Landover Babtist, which is a parody.

God Hates Sin Period. I Didnt Realize God Catagorized Sin. Except For Blaspheming The Holy Spirit.
 
I am not sure where this should go but i have to get this out. i just visited the above mentioned site for after a class discussion on bigotry. I have never seen or heard anything so vile and hateful from a supposedly christian group. it makes me sick that they use God in such a way. i am not sure if i want to vomit or cry about the whole situtuation. My question to you guys is how do you reason with these people? What can we do to say that is not God? i am disgusted with the whole thing.
 
Whatever do you mean? They say right on their site that they aren’t a hate group, lol.

I sent them an email last night as a matter of fact. I know my opinions and comments will fall right off the back of their hateful heads, but oh well.

Can you imagine how they must make God feel? I, too, felt like I needed a bath after seeing that site. They are not alone, but they are the worst.
