Are you talking about the western rite within the Eastern Orthodox Church? If so, you can find out a lot by looking at these websites:

Most are in the Antiochian Archdiocese under their local Bishop. But there are a few in ROCOR and I think the Serbian archdioceses. And yes, they are canonically recognized.

But there are also western rite parishes that are a part of the Greek Old-Calendarists that are not within the Eastern Orthodox Church. And there are also some groups that use “western rite” and “Orthodox” in their names but they are not within the Eastern Orthodox Church or a part of the Greek Old-Calendarists.

OCA/Moscow Patriarchate has the “Rite of St. Tikhon”, which is essentially a Book of Common prayer service, heavily modified largely in the direction of the old Sarum rite, the Roman Catholic Missal, and with an epiklesis. (Note, one of the American BCP’s had a form of an epiklesis).

I don’ t know much about the Antiochians but I’m quite sure their “Rite of St. Gregory” is very, very close to the 1962 Roman Catholic Missal, but in English, with epiklesis. They may also have their own BCP-variant on top of that. I don’t know. In Europe, the Antiochians have also revived the Gallican rite (one of the predecessor rites of the current Roman rite, and source of the Gloria).

Needless to say, it’s popular with converts from Anglicanism and Roman Catholicism.

Vast majority of Western Rite Orthodox are under Antioch, although as mentioned a few are under other juristictions. OCA doesn’t have any, although St. Tikhon did authorize it when he was our Metropolitan. From what I understand the vast majority of people use Western Rite parishes as a gateway to the Orthodox Church itself.

Of course there is always the possibility of schismic groups claiming to be “Western Orthodox”, any truly Orthodox Church will always tell you what juristiction it is a member of.

Pan Orthodox Sermon by His Beatitude Metropolitan Jonah. He said he is the head of the OCA in America, at least that is what it sounded like he was claiming. He is in Dallas Texas.

I have no idea if you all will agree with him or not. I am not familiar with Orthodoxy.

There’s a misunderstanding there. Metropolitan Jonah is head of the Orthodox Church in America (not to be confused with Orthodoxy in America), which at this point in time only has Eastern Rite churches. It has been a rival with the Greek Orthodox Church Archdiocese of America for quite some time, and the two have blamed each other for being the cause of disunity in North America.
He’s presently Locum Tenens for the Diocese Texas is in (I forget the name).

Ultimately, I’m content to let the bishops argue politics. I’ll simply support unity, and worship God.
