This morning I was asleep, dreaming of some woman from work. I dreamt I gave her a lift home when she started to kiss me and stuff, in reality I started to ejaculate. It was very strange, something I hadn’t done for many years.

I didn’t masterbate.
I was asleep.
I wasn’t thinking of her or any woman when I got in bed.
It was quite a shock really.

Have I sinned?

“No” pretty much completely covers it. When asleep you have neither knowledge of what you are doing or free consent. So there is no way for you to be sinning, you are not conscious.

Take it from a seminarian, this is perfectly normal. Especially when one is living chastely, and is not giving in to masturbation, this is how the body reacts. As time goes on, it tends to occur less frequently. But even if it doesn’t, don’t stress. Totally natural, no sin.

This starts to be a habit. I just answered a similar question,and the answer is the same,no,it is not a sin. When we do something sleeping we are not in control over our mind,and therefor it can’t be a sin. (If get drunk and then masturbate,that is a sin.You may not be in full control of your mind,but enough to know what you do. (“who is she and where am I and what did we do” words by E.Costello,sung by J.Cash "The Big Light) So take it easy son,all is OK,one thing you could do,:blushing: ask her out,you never know…:love:
 
I had the same thing except that in the dream I somehow realized it was wrong but thought “I don’t care”. Even this was said to have no moral culpability. With no chance to use reason or will and with no real person to sin with, there is no sin. In studying moral theology and working at virtue, the feeling of not caring about what I realize is a sin has stopped, even though is was only a dream. I sometimes dream about what I should do but also about what I want to do but shouldn’t. Still, it is no sin without the will.

Funny, I just gave a talk to a bunch of confirmation candidates on this topic this morning. No, it is not a sin but a normal, biological function.

Thank you brother. Every prayer is sincerely appreciated. Of course I could never pray by name for everyone, but I pray constantly for each person who constantly supports my vocation with their prayers. What a beautiful Church, what a beautiful life! Only in heaven will we see the amazing and far-reaching effects of our prayer lives.

The trouble with dreams is they can be remembered afterwards, so then we should try not to dwell on them.

Thats the beauty of it my brother. We dont have to know. Since we have the communion of the saints. God knows who we are praying for, even if we do not.🙂
 
Forgive me for bringing up this thread again. But i need some help. I woke up after an uncomfortable nightmare of this wet dream think happening. The only thing i know is that i have been a sleep for hours after being up and realized the nightmare was a fact.

For 10 mins i just been flying round in ring saying no, no, no and crying. This has never happened before and i am scared like a child. It was just days ago that i was to confession.

Have i sinned? Wanted to sleep more, but i feel i need to do something. Does my priest need to see me for confession or?
 
Nope, no sin here, brother: it’s an involuntary thing. If anything, it sounds like you’ve got a problem with scrupulosity and your fears just overwhelmed your body.

Well, i have been battling some issues and realize i need to trust myself more and worry less. Easier said than done, but it has to be done yes.
