Whaley Bridge braces for more rain and thunderstorms

Dozens more homes have been evacuated in Whaley Bridge ahead of expected bad weather on Sunday, as emergency workers continue their efforts to prevent the dam giving way (pictured today).

Derbyshire, UK could be washed away and surrounding area! Result not known at this time.
 
Well, Derbyshire will not be swept away. But I am very concerned for this town. There is rain there at the moment, it’s a race against time to stop the dam collapsing. People are now not allowed back to their homes at all.

To put Whaley Bridge into a little context for those outside the UK, Whaley Bridge is so far north in Derbyshire it’s nearly in Greater Manchester (the county, not the city). More than a third of the water in the reservoir has been pumped away, but with heavy rainfall, it may make the dam completely collapse. The wall has already partially collapsed, this triggered the initial evacuation last Thursday.
