What 3 Guests Would You Invite To Your Thanksgiving Table Dinner?

And I’d be too excited to eat.
 
:love: I would invite Our Blessed Mother, St. Joseph and St. Francis of Assisi. I would ask them about union with Jesus, how to pray, how to listen and how to draw close to Jesus everyday. 🙂
 
As I am about to leave work for home, I will have to post my choices in separate installments.

My first choice for a Thanksgiving dinner guest: Pope Benedict XVI

I would invite my parish priest over to my house, would I wish any less for the current vicar of Christ? 🙂

I would love to speak with him on several topics to include the following:
  1. his life experience as the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and its history
  2. his experiences and times with the previous vicar of Christ
  3. his vision for the Church and how I and my family may best serve him and the Church
  4. his advice on witnessing Christ to the world and to the United States of America, in particular.
I can only imagine what I would feel learning directly from this man whom I greatly admire. The effect of having this man in my home and with my children present would be incredibly profound!
 
The bum off the street with a paper bag over his MD 20/20, (I am sure I could find one if I looked)
The guy that talks to himself on the way to the bus everyday and looks slightly insane.(he might be facinating- who knows?)
The mentally disabled middle aged woman who somehow does not get hit by cars as she crosses the street from the apartment complex she must live in to the grocery store.
(She has taught me patience in driving)

But too bad I will never be able to as I need approval from the boss.

And the boss would not approve.
 
My Mom and Dad and my Uncle Bernie. (Deceased in 1990, 1988, and 1991 respectively.)
 
My mom. I miss her so much especially around the holidays. Jesus too. Want to hear what he had to say without the layers of interpretations over the centuries. Finally, Oscar Wilde. I think he, my mom and Jesus would have far too much fun discussing Mr Wilde’s quotes:

Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much.

Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.

And finally:

If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they’ll kill you.

This year, I am recovering from surgery and my son is out of town. I have no family nearby and have not been invited anywhere because I told people I was good for Thanksgiving. So I am alone.

Tomorrow, I will hobble about the house and make myself a nice tradition meal, though I will use A cornish game hen instead of a turkey. In a way, I am actually looking forward to a relaxing day on my own.

Who would I want?
  • My spiritual director, a wonderful Franciscan nun who has me grow so much since I was confirmed in 2005.
  • My priest who was the very first Catholic clergyman I ever spoke to and guided me through my conversion and RCIA experience.
  • The young woman, whom I will call Joy, who died in my arms three years ago who is most responsible for me meeting God and coming into the church.
Just thinking of having these three people, especially Joy, in the same room makes me, a man’s man, cry.

Please pray for all the souls in Purgatory.
 
My second choice for a dinner guest would be the radio talk show host, speaker and author, Michael Medved. I truly admire this man’s ability to debate. Whether or not I agree with this gentlemen on his position on the topics presented on his program, his methods of conducting dialogue are impressive.

The topics I would like to discuss with him would include the following:
  1. Principles of healthy debate, i.e. how to do it intelligently and with compassion
  2. Jewish-Catholic dialogue, i.e. where are we currently in his point of view and where to go from there?
  3. Composition of editorial columns
  4. American politics and social issues and how to progress against an increasingly hostile liberal agenda against traditional American values
I and my lovely wife had the fantastic opporunity to be in the presence of this man at the Bishop’s Pro-Life Dinner last year. The experience was phenomenal.
 
My final choice for dinner guests would be the Catholic converts, Scott and Kimberly Hahn. No persons were more instrumental in my wife’s and my conversion to Holy Mother Church than this ‘dynamic duo’ of Catholic envagelism.

The topics I would like to discuss with him would include the following:
  1. Scripture studies (of course!)
  2. The Catholic family; marriage and the issues related to the raising of several children
  3. Evangelization; how to win converts such as ourselves!
  4. Swapping family stories and just getting to know them better personally
I and my lovely wife had the fantastic opporunity to be in the presence of Dr. Hahn at a speaking engagement in the local Dallas area. This experience, like that of being in the presence of the topic of my previous post, was equally phenomenal.

We feel that we owe the Hahn family at least a Thanksgiving feast especially as an expression of our deep gratitude for opening our eyes and hearts to the loving truth of our daddy (abba) who is in heaven and our momma, the Catholic Church.
 
What an interesting and thought-provoking question! I love questions like this!

My first choice would be George Washington; he’s my favorite American historical person.

The other two people I’d like to have at my table is my nephew and his wife–they’ve been married for 12+ years and I’ve never met her (they live 1100 miles away) or their children.

Who would you invite? Why? What topics would you discuss with your guests at the Thanksgiving table dinner?
 
Probably the same as last year for the same reasons.
