 When will the Catholic Church be “one” again? I know that Jesus said that he came to bring division, but I’m pretty sure that he didn’t intend on this much division between his like minded followers and apostles. It also seems that I can’t find a happy medium, and Iv’e been accused by many here in both extremes.

I’m not starting this thread to cry a river and look for a shoulder to cry on, but I guess its just more for trying to understand. Here are the two extremes that follow, and how I was attacked both ways. This really got me thinking that we just have way too many free thinkers in the church nowadays, and way too many who are over opinionated and feel that they are somehow more Catholic than the pope and somehow have a better idea than God Himself. Or at-least, that is the way many are coming off here.

I have a great love for the Catholic Church, the Mass itself, priests, nuns, all of the sacraments, the saints, the teachings of the church, etc, but I started a thread to voice my displeasure in how some of the pedophilia cases in the church were dealt with and swept under the carpet by many. It outraged me at the time that bishops who knew of these atrocities and kept quiet were actually transfered to Rome and celebrating special Masses there. I backed up everything I said with documentation, and I wasn’t attempting to look past my own sins, but just voicing my outrage.

While I did have some who understood and sympathized with my anger, the insults outweighed the sympathy, and many of the insults got downright personal. I was called Judas and compared to Martin Luther, and told that God was gonna punish me for my sins of speaking out against the things I saw. **Really? **

Now lets take the extreme the other way.

I recently started a different thread about how we need to call sin what it is, and the thread went into abortion, and then went from there to how Obama has declared a war against the unborn. I talked about how much of a mess this whole thing is and it needs to end, and we as “Catholics” can’t just keep thinking this is someone else’s problem. I truly feel like the blood of the innocent is on all of our hands, and if anyone doesn’t feel that way, they may want to read the passage where Jesus is addressing the hypocrites, scribes and pharisees who felt that if they lived in the days of the prophets, they wouldn’t have killed them. I also made references to Hitler and Bin laden asking how we can call ourselves any better, knowing that 50 million (with an M) babies have been murdered in their own mothers wombs just in the United States alone since Roe vs Wade.

I also talked about the fact that Obama had a hidden agenda in that original health care bill that he attempted to illegally shove down the throats of Americans, that would have made it law that any doctor regardless of their religious or moral beliefs, would have to assist in or perform an abortion on demand is asked to do so, or they would lose their doctors license, their practice and be fired. I also made another Hitler reference when referring to Obama.

Germans thought Hitler was a nice guy too, until he took away all of their freedoms. Obama has surrounded and continues to surround himself with catholic traitors and pro abortion advocates, and just the other day, appointed & nominated an ex-Planned Parenthood official who is still in good standings with that organization to be our next Appeals judge. He now owns most of the US financial system, the US auto industry, is taking over the health care system, etc. If this doesn’t wreak of Socialism & Nazi-ism, I don’t know what does.

There is also now talk of him putting a tithing tax on religious organizations. Really? I think this is nothing but a ploy to silence the Catholic Church from speaking out against all of the atrocities this man actually stands for. I have zero political ties to either party, but then I started taking a beating from Democrats and Catholics who support Obama.

I was told that I am a conspiracy theorist, that I am just angry & full of hate and I need to calm down, that I’m not being fairly balanced, etc. And truths that I was pointing out were called nothing more than “rhetoric”.

Didn’t Jesus pray that we could be one as He and the Father are one? **What the hell happened? **

I guess my other concern and question to go along with this thread about the Catholic Church and these forums in-particular would be as follows.

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO HUMILITY???

Lets not tackle boring issues here like abortion and misuses of power by individuals in the church, we have more important things to tackle like if we should have drums or guitar in Mass, or about what people are wearing when they come to church. The things that seem to be much more important here are discussing how boring a priests homily may be, or if we should celebrate a Mass in English or Latin, or how some people seem unfriendly in the church.

It seems that many are so worried about knit-picking the smaller things to death, while the bigger issues just walk right by. And if someone brings them up they are hated on by many. Believe me when I say that I am a wretched sinner that knows I am a little less than nothing, but it appears that many here don’t feel the same. My sins sicken me when I think about them, and so does the way many of my so called “Catholic” brothers and sisters act when I see the way many behave on these forums.

I may get kicked off of here for what I’m about to say and this thread will probably be mysteriously deleted as well, but at this point, I don’t care. I was off of here for about 6-7 months, and in the little time Iv’e been back, it’s now crystal clear why I don’t come on here any more. They need to change the name of this place though. Instead of calling it Catholic Forums, they need to call it Free Thinkers Forums or The Catholic religion can be whatever I think it is forums. This place is pathetic.

I’ve learned long ago that the only person’s posts I have any control over are my own. If we put something out there (particularly on hot button topics like the clerical abuse scandal or Obama/Hitler comparisons), things can get heated.

I think humility is definitely the virtue to pray for. One of the temptations of the internet is the over-valuation of our own opinions. Our every thought and opinion (no matter how ill-formed) can be posted, tweeted, blogged, etc. And once it is out there, it is subject to critique and eavluation by anyone else.

I know it can be frustrating when others don’t post as charitably as we would like, but try not to write off CAF entirely. This forum is the most civil, well-moderated forum I have encountered. Is it perfect? No, because none of us indiviudal contributors are perfect. But it’s pretty good.

Fatima, So you are aware of your own sins, Work on them! and offer up your own sins and those of the whole world in reparation for all the evil in the world.
God only is our judge, He alone judges the hearts of man,
We can judge the evil and offer prayer for the sinners redemption, God however will be the judge.
I suggest a more positive attitude would be to offer a life of prayer for the redemption of sinners for the end of evil in this world. Peace, Carlan

Well, happily, we will all be one in heaven when we all know God’s truth 🙂

Jesus prayed this; “Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one.” John 17:6-19

The more I reflect on that desire of Jesus the more I understand why the Church seeks the path of Eccumenical Councils although I do not always understand the path of humility which often seems like caving in to other beliefs. But we don’t give much of a testimony when we are divided, do we? 😦

Hi, I hope you stay on, I was beginning to feel very lonely. Thanks for your comment.
I think when important issues are aired, duck, before the stones come flying. Congratulations. I remember when Kennedy was elected, and there was no middle road, it was either yah or neh. I hope this next observation will be taken well. But political love grows deeper than Christian love.

“Give to Ceasar what is Ceasar’s, and to G-d what is G-d’s.”
We sometimes have a problem remembering which one is more important.

I agree it can seem like the Catholic church at times is divided and a mess but I believe it is the most wonderful place to be. There are different opinions because people are all different. People are in different stages in their spiritual walks.

I am sorry you are having a bad experience here right now but the few people you have been talking to do not represent the whole Catholic church.

Also, it is not the church that sins, it is the people in it and they do that because everybody is a sinner. Jesus founded the Catholic church, it bears the four marks, one, holy, catholic and apostolic and as Jesus promised the gates of hell will not prevail against it.

I hope you have better experiences. I understand your anger over major problems and I believe that anger can at times be a good thing but only if it is directed in an appropriate way and place. I would use you anger over the injustices of the world to do good. Find ways you can help. Volunteer at pregnancy centers or political campaigns. Churches are always looking for help.

I pray you will hear where God is calling you to focus your anger.

Please provide some more information about this tithing tax. I would like to hear more about it.
… then I started taking a beating from Democrats and Catholics who support Obama.
Just for the record I was one of the people who responded to your other post. I am not a Democrat and I do not support the president’s views on abortion.
He now owns most of the US financial system, the US auto industry…
President Bush urged congress to approve a $700 billion bailout to help stabilize the economy. President Obama continued the support. It is my understanding that those entities have paid some, if not all, of that back to the government and probably prevented the country from falling into a deeper crisis than it did. This is not the same thing as owning the financial and auto industries.

Stay on topic
Thank you, and thank you for not deleting this thread. I had a little smoke coming out of my ears as I posted this, but I feel that it all needed to be said. Thank you for understanding. I also appreciate all of the kind words and understanding from all who have posted here so far. Your words of encouragement have helped immensely. Thank you all.

i don’t know if one could ever say the Church was one. Many people who were considered in the Church didn’t follow the rules then just like Catholilcs today. Many Catholics had varied beliefs of Christ. There were those who believed in Christ that never attended and Church meetings. There were always small groups who had a different ideas about Jesus.Remember the person who was casting out devils in Jesus’s name? They weren’t of the fold and Jesus replied “leave them alone those who aren’t against us are for us”.In reality the Church is no more separated today than its ever been. What good is it that many people say there Cathollics but don’t go to Church or follow its teaching?Isn’t it just as good to have less Catholics who do follow the Church? We can see even with the Schism the Church was never in agreement.

A wise priest once told me, the minute you think you know who God is and what he wants, that’s when you know you’re wrong.
Step back. Take a breath. Everyone who posts here is a sinner. It’s called being a human., and the Catholic church features almost exclusively human beings.

We all need to vent every now and then. 😉

Thanks for understanding. It just seems that humility is a lost virtue on many nowadays, and I don’t think many realize just how important of a virtue it is. I know that personally, I need to remind myself of this many times daily. I also have to admit that humility was lacking when I started this tirade of a thread, but somehow, I feel like the truth still came out.
