What about David and Jonathan?

A friend of mine, who has been raised Catholic, identifies as a lesbian. She has been told by an anti-Christian source that 1 Samuel 20:17 (“Jonathan made David swear again by his love for him, for he loved him as he loved his own life.”) shows that the Bible does support a homosexual lifestyle. What can I tell her to explain that this is incorrect?

Our Lord said that there is no greater love than to give up one’s life for another. He measured love by sacrifice–not words or pleasure.

This was the kind of love David and Jonathan had. There is nothing in that passage that suggests that they were attracted to each other sexually.
