My sister was married in the Catholic Church but remarried without an annulment, is her new marriage valid? Her husband is Christian, do they honor catholic marriage , should they have required an annulment?

Dear friend,

The Catholic Church does not recognize her marriage as valid–first of all, because she is a Catholic and married outside of the Catholic Church. Secondly, the Church still considers that she is validly married to her first husband. One cannot be validly married to two people at the same time.

Such non-Catholic churches like the one she attempted marriage in, do not consider marriage to be a sacrament and ignore Jesus’ condemnation of divorce and remarriage (Mt.19:9).
