What about Family guy show?

As always, English is not my first language, so I apologize for any misspelling.

Who doesn’t know Family Guy show, it is comedian show, it is making fun of almost anything, 9/11 to God himself. And the last one, it is little too far, if I could say the things they did, I would not done until tomorrow. and one episode they made fun of The Holy Spirit, and I can see why they made fun specially of the holy spirit.

It is really really really funny show, and you will laugh out loud many times in one episode. but does it worth watching it?! I don’t know, I need your advice guys.

Although I admit it has had some funny moments, I recommend against watching it. It has some seriously disordered morality and mocks things which shouldn’t be taken lightly. 😦
 
I only think the older episodes were funny. The rest is too trashy for my tastes.
 
The show is trash. I was hooked on it years ago, went through season 1 - 9 and realized it got boring and repetitive; trust me, the novelty wears off. Their jokes get drawn out, and they’re often blasphemous and immoral; revolving around cultural trends and inclinations. Pretty pathetic really.

Once you begin to study the Catholic faith; (the Saints, Theology, Philosophy etc.); much of mainstream entertainment becomes totally trivial and an insignificant waste of time.
 
I really dislike that show – I have only seen a few episodes (at other people’s houses when I was visiting) but it just seemed very distasteful and obnoxious. Definitely not worth watching.
 
I admit to watching it. When it gets too irreverant, I turn to something else. Everyone’s point of reference is different.
One, somehow animation is different. It’s not as if someone walking by the TV will mistake it for a more realistic depiction of irreverance.
Two, I wouldn’t let a kid watch it. They lack the wisdom to know how it can be too irreverant.
Three, watching it will not sway my judgment, my morals, my ethics. I am stronger than that. But maybe not everyone is strong. That means they can turn the station.
I wll get back to this thread, if need be on this, but the one with Stewie and Brian in the bank vault was funny, and seriously philosophical. Except the part where Brian changes Stewie’s diaper. ewwwww. But I liked the philosophy enough to buy that one episode. Back when I could do such things…

If Frazier, Dick VanDyke, Everybody Loves Raymond or the like is on at the same time, however…

Seth MacFarlane is a coward. If you want a funny show go to south park. The creators of south park will attack anything and everything. Seth MacFarlane doesn’t. He chooses who to attack. Trey Parker and Matt Stone said that if you are going to make fun of someone you have to make fun of everyone. Otherwise you don’t have the right to make fun of anyone. While I don’t agree with that of course, it makes sense that “they” believe it, given their show. They don’t specifically target any one group/person/thing more than another. What turned me away from seth mcfarlane was when trey and matt were getting death threats for their mohammed episode. He goes on the news and responds to it by saying they went too far, they were inappropriate, etc. He literally attacks Christ, especially Catholics, almost every single episode. And “he” has the gall to call out south park for an episode that really wasn’t even making fun of islam? He is a coward, a hypocrite and a fool. I say don’t watch it. Don’t encourage that idiot to spew more of his filth.

I could be mistaken, but I am fairly sure I heard Seth being interviewed and saying that he was an eual opportunity offender. That you can’t offend one without everyone else. Otherwise, it becomes dangerous.
But yes, I like South Park too. Haven’t watched in a LONG time though…
 
It’s not sinful to watch shows like “Family Guy,” but it would be better to watch something else.

If it causes you to sin, or leads you to sin than stay away from it.

“South Park” can get worse than “Family Guy” at times (although it usually doesn’t.) My suggestion is “Third Rock from the Sun.” It is HILARIOUS. Look it up on Netflix if you have it or try to watch it online somewhere. There are no new episodes and haven’t been for quite a while sadly…

“King of the Hill” is much funnier imo. Both shows are probably a waste of time, but I wouldn’t spend a lot of time worrying about it.

I think I will stop watch it, I can’t serve two kings at the same time, yes, it is funny show, it made me laugh so many times, especially Stewie!! “blast, victory is mine”. But yet, when I look at some of it’s jokes about God and Jesus and saints and catholic church…etc. I can’t.

However, why do Hollywood need to go that way? why do they need to make fun of religion or be nasty in order to be creative? I don’t wanna be extreme Christian, but also I don’t wanna be hypocritical.

The sad fact is that we live in a POST-christian culture. The entertainment industry culture is especially hostile to traditional christian values. Never forget that when watching TV shows, ever. I once saw an interview with a comedy show producer and learned something serious. Most of the writers, producers and even actors aren’t entirely shameless mercenaries doing what they do for money. Film is at least partialy an art and art is innately a communication medium. Many of these guys find it very rewarding to use their access into your mind to try to influence the way you think. It’s what makes the work REWARDING to them. Just listen to a George Clooney or Matt Damon interview sometimes. These people aren’t simply money grubbing robots. They believe in things that are often incompatible with with what we believe and are using their positions to sell their convictions to a wider audience.

I don’t tell people NOT to watch irreverent shows. But I do warn believers not to allow American culture to have more access and influence on their souls than the gospel. Think about that for a second. How much time do you spend per week watching TV, listening to secular radio, etc vs the time you spend in prayer, spiritual reading or religious programming? Humans are relational creatures. We ARE affected by the influences we allow into our lives. Don’t expect to live in moral/cultural sewage 24 hours a day and expect once a week mass attendance to be all you need to counteract it.

THIS. I don’t even find family guy funny at all, and it seems like they have an agenda to bash Christianity at every opportunity. I find South Park to be funnier because they have no agenda. They rip on everyone and anyone including themselves. And there is always some sort of social commentary within almost every episode, something that I find family guy lacks.
 
I watched it for awhile. I let one of the Star Wars episodes get me started (which I thought was hilarious)

But I found out that without me realizing it at first, that it was warping my sense of humor. I watch a show that I usually found funny after watching Family Guy for several weeks and I realized to my horror that my perceptions had been changing.

I think that there are brief moments of brilliance in the show, but that it’s consumed with such filth that it’s not worth watching.

Like many other people who have replied, I too enjoyed Family Guy at first and found the show to have deteriorated in its later episodes.
There are certainly moments of comedic genius in there, but you have to sift through some mediocrity.
Believe it or not, I would recommend Disney’s Phineas & Ferb as an alternative to Family Guy. The series co-creator Dan Povenmire directed Family Guy for a while, and some of the same style of humor from Family Guy often finds its way into Phineas & Ferb minus the crude content.
My wife and I have no children yet, but we are avid fans of this show, give it a try.
 
Honestly, Family Guy used to be funny now it’s just trash
