You may not see, I eat meat unfortunately I am mixed with fish, I don’t like the taste, should I eat salad on a Friday during Lent or do I have to eat fish since I am eating meat?

Do you like Grilled Cheese Sandwiches? What about Peanut Butter and Jelly/Jam?

I don’t understand your question. There is no requirement to eat fish or any specific food on a day of penance. We are required to abstain from meat. You can eat whatever you want that isn’t meat.

Basically, we’re supposed to refrain from eating “carne”, which can be roughly translated as “blood-meat”. Those are going to cover foods that have been historically more expensive-- beef, pork, poultry, etc.

Think of it like “eating like a peasant” as a sacrifice, where you give up something nice as a small luxury. It doesn’t mean that you run off to Red Lobster and enjoy bottomless shrimp or something. It also doesn’t mean run off to Red Lobster and eat bottomless shrimp, because you hate shrimp, and so eating it is your sacrifice. 🙂 Just have some plain food, and avoid the carne.

I’m a vegetarian, I don’t eat fish or meat. It’s not that hard. I’m not sure what you’re trying to say here.

just because I eat meat… does it mean I’ll have to eat fish? that was the question or could I simply have a salad on lent fridays ?

You don’t have to eat fish on Lent Fridays. It’s a cultural thing at a lot of parishes to have Fish Fries during Lent on Fridays but any non-meat is fine.

You are not commanded to eat fish.

The discipline is “no meat”

We are actually supposed to abstain from meat all fridays of the year or give up something else in penance.

It’s hard. I’m a picky eater, and I hate sea food. Pasta, cheese pizza, salad, etc are my usuala on friday

ETA no you are not required to eat fish. Any non meat is fine.

I might be less picky than others but there’s tons of awesome things you can do with eggplant and it is pretty filling. I actually prefer eggplant parmesan over chicken parmesan among other things.

Do you like Grilled Cheese Sandwiches?
When I popped into this thread, I was thinking exactly the same thing. I love grilled cheese sandwiches! Comfort food, they remind me of the ones my mother made for me as a child. There are a variety of ways to tart them up too: slices of tomato or onions, open-faced, different types of cheese, and on days where meat isn’t proscribed, a few slices of bacon, yum!

I’m not fond of fish either except that I love salmon. Salmon is such a fine dish though, in all its forms, that I wouldn’t feel very penitential eating it on meatless days!

You just have to skip meat on Friday. You can eat anything that’s not meat instead. If you don’t like fish (or are allergic) you can eat bread, cheese, peanut butter, veggie salads, cheese pizza, bag of potato chips with onion dip, baked beans, pancakes and eggs (no bacon though), apple pie, the list goes on and on.

As for fish, I like tuna salad sandwiches, or just plain water packed tuna served with pickles, or some fresh salmon, or all kinds of seafood, or the occasional salmon steak, or my favorite, homemade battered fish fry with fresh fish…crab cakes are good too where I live…I’ll even eat the occasional frozen fish sticks and of course there are McD’s and Wendy’s fish sandwiches.

So wait. We can’t eat meat on Fridays and days of penance?

How old are you? If you are a minor we can’t , as per forum rules, advise what will be contrary to your parents/guardians

i look forward to lenten fridays because i like seafood

i know that is no sacrifice and i get no credit for it… 😦
