Question???
My grandmother is an old fashion Catholic who solemnly reads the bible.
We happened to be talking about Prophets when I asked what about Oracles?
She told me to be aware of Oracles because they are bad.
I looked up the definition from my Bible it states that: an Oracle is a declaration from God when consulted by a prophet. In the Prophetic Books it mentions (Oracles or also known as word of God.) When does a person considered to be a source of wise counsel or prophetic opinions become bad? Maybe when dealing with medians? or even clairvoyant people?

BTW if you check wikipedia under oracles you will find a long list of oracles from various cultures from ancient times most notably the Oracles of Delphi who were women who would make prophetic utterances after inhaling these gasses that erupted from below the earth. The philosopher Socrates was told by them he was the wisest man on earth and was determined to spend the rest of his life to prove them wrong.😃 If an oracle is prophesying in the name of a pagan god or getting their messages from an occult source then they are bad. Your grandmother is warning you against fortune tellers and other false prophets and certain practices in voodoo and santeria of fortelling the future and thing like a ouija board and tarot cards which can open you up to possesion at its worst.

Besides being a gateway to the occult, seeking oracles shows a lack of faith in God’s providence in our lives. All things work for the good of those who trust the Lord (Romans 8:28).

I too was wondering about Oracle Cards. I have heard such a wide span of answers concerning them.

I wanted to post an example of an Oracle reading here to show that for one, Oracles are not a future reading tool, nor a what should I do tool either… I really do not see how it would Hinder Gods Hand honestly. (with this anyway) I do not know if there are other types.

But basically the link… you are given a choice of 3 cards. (other times it can be more) and you choose one. They did M S W labels to make it easier to pick one. Most people just number each card.

You get a “reading” for the card you choose (they do a reading for all of them) and it is along the lines of,
What does this picture/word/phrase mean to you? Example M mirrors S summer W water.

When there happens to be a card with a phrase it is usually something extremely general such as something from a fortune cookie, or a common quote
ex stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending
or
ex retreat into nature
ex immerse yourself in artistic and creative expression

Edit
However I can see how this may not be a good practice as there are other better practices.
I personally just know about these are I find them fun (they are mostly meaningless to me, just something fun to think about) 🤷

I dont see it that way, I mean, if certain people are endowed with a gift such as clairvoyance, then we know God gave them this gift for some reason. We also know for a fact NOT everyone has these abilities, so it must mean something that these certain people were given this gift…right?

If it was so evil and wrong, why would God give the ability to anyone?

while Ive never had my future read or had a reading by any of these people, even if I did, nothing they told me would impact my faith in God anyway, not even remotely. I would still view it as another person helping me in a way they could, due to their God given gift, nothing inherently evil about that imo.

They are probably talking about people who often boast or advertise that they are clairvoyant. The prophets of God who did Oracles, did not say they did Oracles, they just were people who followed God and helped whoever came to them with God. Future reading and Oracles however are two different things… God’s people never do future readings except in the form of a prophecy…
Telling your fortune could be said to be the same way…
But these things could also just be the fruit of being insightful of the fruits or consequences of a persons choices and path they have taken. 🤷

Either Case, God’s people do not claim anything as theirs or advertise. So those that say they are Oracles or do them or do readings (esp for trade) could very well be not from God or if they are, really need to get priorities straighten out.

Many people think this knowledge comes from insight of a demon. Why is why many people claim these to be wrong. Esp when it is very hard sometimes to discern. 🤷

An oracle can be a person who gives a message from God or the message itself.

Isaiah uses the word oracle eleven times. All the prophets were oracles who themselves spoke oracles from God.

Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision? Much in every way. To begin with, the Jews are entrusted with the oracles of God. (Romans 3:1-3)

The problem begins when we think we are prophets or we listen to false prophets.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are of God; for many false prophets have gone out into the world. (1 John 4:1)

The whole oracle card thing:

It is either totally pointless “entertainment,”
– in which case you are wasting your time but maybe you are having fun,
or it is an attempt to know the future through magic,
– in which case you are trying to gain unfair advantage by dealing with the occult.

Fortune cookies are only okay because nobody believes in them. They are literally just a game. That’s why most fortune cookie companies just put in positive messages, and Chinese phrases to learn.

If you did believe in them, and played Lotto with the lucky numbers (because you believed in secret fortune cookie powers, and not just as a way of picking random numbers), you would be trying to turn them into something occult, which would be wrong.

Sometimes it is worth the trouble to try to win back something that most people think of as occult. For example, there’s a lot of fun Tarocchi games that you can play with Italian decks of cards, even if most people in this country think they are only for occult Tarot deck use. Playing normal Tarocchi card games spits in the occult’s eye, and you can teach people something about the rest of the world.

OTOH, some stuff is just way too tainted, like Ouija boards. Automatic writing and table turning and planchette pushing are just way too misused to be a fun party activity in this day and age.

Your right it would be a waste of time, but oracle cards DO NOT predict or say anything about the future. That would be Tarot cards which are different.

I totally get your overall message and agree.

Oh and Oujia boards are a scary thing to mess with. Just one in its open package causes problems in my opinion. They are dangerous things and no game by any means.:nope:

It is not a gift from God. Clairvoyants are not genuine. Some people who claim to be clairvoyant really think they are but are simply wrong. Others are frauds out to deceive.
It is a sin of grave matter to consult clairvoyants.

The Church teaching:

CCC 2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.
