What about you? What aspects of your faith are absolutely critical?

This has been more and more on my mind lately. I’ve been seeing the contentiousness of some of the debates between Christians of different denominations and even among Catholics. I wrote about it at acts17verse28.blogspot.com/2009/05/if-he-hadnt-risen-from-dead-hed-be.html today.

So this is my question.

In your opinion, what are the absolutely critical things - those things that we MUST believe in order to call ourselves followers of Christ?
 
One must be in union with the church that Jesus founded through St. Peter.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
Born of the Virgin Mary,
Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
Was crucified, died and was buried.

He ascended into Heaven,
Is seated at the right hand of God,
From whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
The holy catholic church,
The communion of saints,
The forgiveness of sin,
The resurrection of the body
And life everlasting.
 
spending time in the Real Presence of Christ (and, from what i can ascertain, the Souls in Purgatory, who, allegedly are There with Him).

The Mass (the Word and prayer)

doing good in the world (helping others to come to Christ)

The Creed is obviously the answer.

St. Athanasius defined “Christian” as only those who accept the entirety of the Creed.
 
Easy answer there: the Apostles’ Creed expanded to the Nicene Creed hold the essential beliefs of Catholic faith. For other basics, go to the catechism.

To believe in the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

To believe that the Bible is without error in its presentation of the truths about God. (Even though it contains much that is mythical, poetic, and even fictional.)

That God (Jesus) founded only One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, and that everything it teaches us is worthy to be believed.
 
I should have added: the Creed is what makes me Christian. The Eucharist is what makes - and keeps - me Catholic Christian.
