On the webpage for the parish I go to I see a list of something called Deanery Penance Services. What is that? I have no idea.

Thanks

Perhaps similar with what we have tonight. Its just a bigger scheduled Confession time with several priests from other parishes coming over and people can say their confessions. Such events are better attended than regularly scheduled Confession times. Also noticably there are longer lines for the guest priests 😃

It is a penitential service held for a cluster of parishes in an area. (Together they make up a deanery, and several deaneries together make up a diocese). The service is led by one priest and containes readings, prayers and hymns. At the end of the liturgy, several priests (sometimes more than a dozen) hear individual confessions. Due to clerical shortages, sometimes parishes within a deanery pool their resources like this, so that people can make their confessions, especially before Christmas and Easter.
