Sounds to me like Pope Francis and National Catholic Reporter have something in common. The same folks who write hit pieces on Pope Francis also criticize NCR. I guess that means they are simpatico.
The condemnation was written by the Bishop in Kansas City where the National “Catholic” Reporter is published. He has jurisdiction in his own Diocese. The publishers did not honor his request to remove the word “Catholic” from their name. You can see by his own statement he used the word heresy and mentioned automatic excommunication. Yet you promote the site.

How do you justify your statement that they don’t dissent from Catholic teaching when the local Bishop said in the strongest possible terms that they do?

For what it’s worth, I don’t think places like NewAdvent or National Catholic Reporter are either totally faithful or representative of the fullness of orthodox Catholicism. This was especially true of NCR a few years ago, but now they seem to be getting better — that’s my opinion.

This is just my personal take, and I’m not too familiar with NCR, but it seems that while they are good at looking at the social teaching of the church that many conservatives often miss, that they sometimes push a bit far in terms of doctrinal change: women priests and so on. Nevertheless, we need a balance of voices. We need those pushing for the vulnerable and marginalized. And if that means having to put of with unrealistic calls for doctrinal change, so be it.

America: The Jesuit Review seems more faithful than NCR and yet still has a certain perspective that I find myself agreeing with more. I also think National Catholic Register (EWTN) is generally good, but also takes certain positions associated with the “Right” (I don’t know how else to classify it) — emphasis on cultural wars, certain view of Amoris Laetitia (more worried about teaching on divorce).

I’m sure there are several Catholic news/commentary/media groups out there, it’s just prominent American Catholic organizations all seem to be affiliated with one another, especially EWTN. So it’s just more noticeable with their biases and whatnot.

Did a papal advisor not call for an interdict against a Catholic news personality? The tweet seems genuine.

I think it very newsworthy if a papal advisor is calling for a canonical penalty which prohibits a reporter from celebrating the Sacraments. I mean with all the US Catholic politicians who promote abortion and same sex marriage receiving no public censure this would be extraordinary.

If you go to NewAdvent.com today, you will see at least 5 articles about Billy Graham. I know he died, and so there is some obvious reason to dedicate energy to his life. BUT I think this association with some Catholics and conservative Protestant Evangelicalism seem to also be correlated with the anti-Francis perspective, and a general skew on Catholicism in general (political, etc.)
I thought ecumenism was a thing promoted by the Holy Father? In fact the Holy Father hinted that a Lutheran married to a Catholic might receive communion. But if New Advent promotes ecumenism it is bad? It is like the site can’t win for losing.
