What are limitations for permissible Catholic Ontological discussion.?

Reading many posts in the philosophy forum, it would seem that venturing into subjective thought is fraught with pitfalls. Like a mouse in a maze, one wanders into the forbidden zones of ism, or another may unknowingly set off the claxton of heresy, etc.
Can we define ground rules prior to venturing forth and falling on a condition peacemeal that needs to be classified.?

I can give you some advice.

1. Read the rules for posting at the head of the Forums section.
2. This is a Catholic Site so don’t complain if Catholic Teaching is used here and there by the posters in support of their Philosophical positions or visa versa.
3. Refrain from personal, self generated attempts at forming a " philosophy " peculiar to yourself.
4. Be precise in your terms. St. Thomas and Aristotle for example used terms very precisely except in a few isolated cases where it is difficult to translate precisely from Greek or Latin into English.
5. Sometimes we do get " huffed. " Don’t take it personally, it is usually the result of frustration in dealing with someone not well versed in a given Philosophy and acts like they know it all.
6. As much as possible use direct quotes from St. Thomas or Aristotle or whoever to support your arguments.

Keeping all that in mind, jump in and see what happens. Linus2nd

Well, I would say that the Church really doesn’t have anything to say directly what is discussed here. C.A. sets its own rules, just follow those. Linus2nd

I’d advise posing whatever questions or ideas you may have. “Heresy” is only a firmly held incorrect belief, held regardless of the Church’s efforts to correct someone in their error. It most certainly is not suggesting novel ideas or approaches to different aspects of the faith. A “forbidden zone”, as you put it James, is, I would think, a disrespectful one. Treat people decently and be free to say whatever comes to mind.

Oh, spelling is important too! (Sorry, it’s the English teacher in me!)
