I have been homeless a few times. I used to work as a contractor, but couldn’t keep enough work to support myself and my expenses. I have been all over this country as a homeless person, walking or riding trains. Yes, I was mentally ill but while homeless.

To answer the topic, a homeless person needs food, sometimes shelter when it’s raining or cold or you just get tired of not showering and sleeping on the street.

Shelter is more important for homeless women than for men.

Clothing, especially in winter, is most helpful.

You don’t have to give money to the homeless directly, but help the shelters that help the homeless. THAT is helpful.

Not all of us were drug addicts or alcoholics or even intentionally homeless.
