I really only know the five following prayers.
The rest of my admittedly limited prayer life is specific intentions
  1. The our father
  2. The hail mary
  3. The Gloria
  4. The Saint Michael Prayer
  5. The Act of Contrition
I am looking to add more prayers. I just don’t know which ones are best.

all you need is the apostles creed and you’ll have everything you need for our lady’s rosary
you may search for “how to say and pray the rosary”. you also may want to search for
“the divine mercy chaplet”

God bless,
johnco

Yeah, I deffinately agree with the others. Look up the Apostle’s Creed and the Hail Holy Queen…then say the rosary. Also, the Divine Mercy chaplet is excellent. Also, if you look up different saints, you can find prayers to saints that you like.

How about some easy ones to pray throughout the day?

Jesus and Mary, I love you. Save souls! (I like this one a lot.)

Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day (night) be at my side to light and guard, to rule and guide. (Children learn this prayer I think, but I like it because it’s nice to remember that God has entrusted each and every one of us to an angel. That’s how precious we are in our Father’s eyes!)

My Jesus, pardon and mercy through the merits of Your holy wounds. (This is an act of reparation for the sins of the world from the chaplet of the holy wounds.)

There is no prayer that is “best”, but any prayer is good that turns your heart towards God and helps you express what you mean. Even (and maybe especially) those times when you just open your heart and talk to him like a loving friend.

Here are some short prayers that I have found helpful:

O Saviour of the world, by your Cross and Precious Blood you have redeemed us:
Save us and help us, I beseech you O Lord.

The Trisagion [say this three times]:
Holy God, Holy and Mighty, Holy and Immortal, have mercy on us.

Sometimes I personalize the first part of the Gloria:
I give glory to you, Father, …to you, Jesus, …to you, O Holy Spirit … As it was in the beginning [etc]

The psalms are a great source of short prayers and expressions of praise.
  • Bless the Lord, O my soul! Let all that is within me praise his holy name!
  • Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
  • Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
Good hymns and spiritual songs are also good to have in your memory, especially psalms and other scripture texts set to music.

It is so lovely that God is drawing you closer to himself by giving you a desire to pray.
