What are Pope Benedict’s Views on Sexual Orientation Disorder & Disease(SODD)? What does he say and where are his speeches or writing on homosexuality?
I don’t think your question is genuine considering the SODD part!!What are Pope Benedict’s Views on Sexual Orientation Disorder & Disease(SODD)? What does he say and where are his speeches or writing on homosexuality?
… “Sexual Orientation Disorder and Disease”?What are Pope Benedict’s Views on Sexual Orientation Disorder & Disease(SODD)? What does he say and where are his speeches or writing on homosexuality?
I am not understanding what are you guys saying, Sexual Orientation Disorder Disease, is what, it is.… “Sexual Orientation Disorder and Disease”?
Wow talk about winning hearts and minds…
Or not.
You know, it is pretty clever. I like the part about how the acronym looks like “SODD” sort of like “Sodom” - as in Sodom and Gamorrah. That’s pretty cool, as if giving it a title like that makes it seem as if it’s really a psychological disorder. Kind of like “Intelligent Design” is a cool way to make creationism sound scientific. Or kind of like “Holocaust Revisionism” is a euphamistic way of saying “Holocaust denial.”I am not understanding what are you guys saying, Sexual Orientation Disorder Disease, is what, it is.
That is good info from the CCC, but also wanted to understand the Pope’s teachings as well. Do you guys know of any speeches or writings?
The Pope is the leader of the Church. On matters of faith and morals the Church’s teachings and the Pope’s do not differ. The Holy Spirit sees to that.I am not understanding what are you guys saying, Sexual Orientation Disorder Disease, is what, it is.

I can only relate what I have read here at CAF, but my impression is that many persons with SSA (Same Sex Attraction), and who accept Church teaching, are uncomfortable with the term “disordered.” They find it insulting and judgemental…as if they were mentally ill. I’ve read several posts lamenting that a better word couldn’t be found.what’s wrong with the sodd acronym? is the real terminology different? I thought the CCC said homosexual acts are disordered?what’s the complaint about?
Dale, Thanks for your comments. The term Sexual Orientation Disorder Disease(SODD) is very common and well accepted term and not meant to offensive. It is like Multiple Scaroses or Spinal Meningitis, etc. Their is no profanity in the title or lewd sexual context. If some want to say SSA intsted of SODD that is fine with me they have the exact same meaning.I can only relate what I have read here at CAF, but my impression is that many persons with SSA (Same Sex Attraction), and who accept Church teaching, are uncomfortable with the term “disordered.” They find it insulting and judgemental…as if they were mentally ill. Yes, homosexual acts are “intrinsically disordered”. The difference is that acts and not persons are being singled out. Homosexual acts are condemned, not the persons with homosexuality.
The objection of many here to the SODD term is that it is crude and hurtful. It calls homosexuality a disease (again, that mental illness accusation) and it also slaps homosexuals in the face by calling them disordered. SODD is not a term which will attract persons with SSA and I believe this is a group to which the Church needs to better reach out.
If there are any benefits to the SODD term, I would be willing to discuss them in relation to its harms.
I think you need to look up “common” and “well accepted.” I had never heard the term Sexual Orientation Disorder Disease (SODD) until your post, so I did a google on it. Your post is the only thing that comes up. If it is “common,” it should be easy to find. It it is “well accepted,” everyone would be using that term.Dale, Thanks for your comments. The term Sexual Orientation Disorder Disease(SODD) is very common and well accepted term and not meant to offensive.
Yeah, but he is probably a git, not a sod.I think we’re having our legs pulled!
There is no gay gene. If there was we’d have already found it.Dale, Thanks for your comments. I do not find this term any more unlikable then the term Heterosexual and if I wanted to call myself OSA (Opposite Sexual Attraction) I could do that too. It is part of responsible and free speech.
As for the Church reaching out to those with SODD, I believe we see this every single day, as it is documented above in the CCC quotes. The Catholic Church NEVER turns away any sinner, which is all of us, that is of good will and desires to be an awakened Christian. I see Catholics everywhere helping others try and remove the scales from the eyes of the current secularized and relative world around us.
SODD, is what, it is.
Lastly it may be more productive to start a new thread on this topic if it is of interest to you and the others, all I was trying to do is find out what the Pope has about SODD, recently. It looks like others are not aware of his recent writing either.
Correct their is no gay gene, nor is their any way to transport SODD attributes from one generation to the next. There is no gay gene. If there was we’d have already found it.
Dale, thank you for the explanation. I don’t find the term SODD offensive for people with SSA, just as the next poster had said, I could call myself a person who has opposite sex attraction. I think that people should see if there is any reason to be offended at all.I can only relate what I have read here at CAF, but my impression is that many persons with SSA (Same Sex Attraction), and who accept Church teaching, are uncomfortable with the term “disordered.” They find it insulting and judgemental…as if they were mentally ill. One time he referred to same-sex unions as pseudo unions.Correct their is no gay gene, nor is their any way to transport SODD attributes from one generation to the next.
So Bones, do you recall any of the Popes statements on homosexuality from this year or last year?

I googled Sexual Orientation Disorder Disease and the only reference it came up with was your post in CAF. I also googled SODD and the only reference I came up with was your post in Catholic forums.Dale, Thanks for your comments.
