The “mosque” that Obama is visiting in that video (around 7 minutes) is the Basilica of the Wisdom of God (Haghia Sophia) erected by emperor Justinian of the Eastern Roman Empire in 6th century. It is a museum now, after being turned into a mosque for centuries. Christian frescos are clearly visible. The supposed traditional Muslim dress is basically ethnic eastern dress and I have a picture of myself in Arabic dress too. Crusader Kings of Jerusalem had Arabic inscriptions on their coins, sure it doesn’t make them Muslim.

Not like I’m a big fan of calling the Quran holy or the way Obama bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, who stood straight. An elected president might perhaps concede a greater personal honour to a monarch but heads of state are basically equal under the protocol (which includes the Emperor of Japan and the Prince of Monaco with kings in the middle). For the record, though, big bows are not done in British court culture, nod of the head would be more appropriate for everybody except courtiers in ceremonial roles. In the East, this is different. Still, equality should have been manifested instead of unilateral reverence. When he says American is not, never has been or will be at war with Islam (or to this effect), that’s a true, positive and very necessary message that everybody should accept and understand. Most of the stuff in the video is non-troubling. The mispresentation of “I am one of them” (he really said one of the Americans with Muslim family members, not one of the terrorists who hit the WTC) is most troubling.

Still vote for Santorum though.

I am assuming that blatantly out of context quotation comes from this comment:

“The United States has been enriched by Muslim Americans. Many other Americans have Muslims in their families or have lived in a Muslim-majority country – I know, because I am one of them.” (Source & Full text of the speech here)

Yes… he is one of the Americans who has Muslims in his family, and has lived in a Muslim-majority country.

I am no fan of the current President, but your recklessness with the facts is extremely counter-productive. If you want to see him elected out of office, please focus on legitimate concerns such as his awful policies.

When was the last time you called yourself a Muslim by accident?
I would suspect anyone who spent their formative “tweener” years in a Muslim’s household just might. Especially when under pressure about your faith and that was just about the only thing standing between you and your worldly goals.

I haven’t had a chance to look into all of the items listed on here, but this might be a list worth looking into:

I think exaggerating or misleading others with regards Obama’s anti-religion views can do more harm than good, but, frankly, some of the things I have looked into about Obama et al. in the past have made my skin crawl.

One of the latest was this:

At a recent meeting between staff of the bishops’ conference and the White House staff, our staff members asked directly whether the broader concerns of religious freedom—that is, revisiting the straight-jacketing mandates, or broadening the maligned exemption—are all off the table. They were informed that they are. So much for “working out the wrinkles.” Instead, they advised the bishops’ conference that we should listen to the “enlightened” voices of accommodation, such as the recent, hardly surprising yet terribly unfortunate editorial in America. The White House seems to think we bishops simply do not know or understand Catholic teaching and so, taking a cue from its own definition of religious freedom, now has nominated its own handpicked official Catholic teachers.

Where’s the puke emoticon?

But you still can’t show a piece of paper after all this time. That’s the inherent irony.

Just a friendly reminder:

Bold added for emphasis.
There are wolves hidden as sheep.
Some politians say that they love any religions just to get into power.
Politics is power. And, for most, that is above religion.
And for individual religion. most religions are public not private.

I thought he was a Christian, but he says he’s Muslim in this ABC interview with George Stephanopolous. The funny part is that George had to “correct” him. Personally, I don’t care if he’s Muslim, i just don’t like lies, deception, and a lack of transparency.

I think what Obama meant to say is ‘my alleged Muslim faith’. Obama claims to be a Christian, we must take him at his word. He and his family attend a church, not a mosque, and we must take that in good faith.

Also, there is no such thing as a ‘secret Muslim’ - by definition, a Muslim is one who publically professes the Shahadah, the Islamic creed. That is the equivalent of baptism for a Christian as the mark of membership of the faith. If Obama were a Muslim, he would need to publically profess it. If he doesn’t and professes something else, then he is not a Muslim, or if he ever were a Muslim he would become an apostate from Islam. By definition, there is no such thing as a ‘secret Muslim’.

Ironically, if he were an orthodox Muslim, he would need to be more respectful of the rights of the unborn and freedom of religious conscience.

Thank you for the post! But don’t you think they would give him an exemption for the con job if it advanced his cause, if there is one? Does someone know for a fact if he attends church regularly?

Who is ‘they’? There is no hierarchy or priesthood in Islam, so there is nobody to give an ‘exemption’ from being an observant Muslim, though there are lots of hadiths (sayings of Mohammed or his first followers) about when it is acceptable to miss prayers, conning the world into believing you are a Christian isn’t one of them. How would this advance Islam in any way?

To put it another way, would the Pope give someone an exemption to act like a Protestant and publicly deny their faith if that would make them politically powerful? Of course not, how could that benefit the Church in any way?

Islam is a religion, not a conspiracy plot. There are many things wrong with Muslim teachings, but we can’t blame them for Obama.

His first exposure to religion was Islam. His father was a Muslim, although not very religious; his stepfather, Lolo Soetoro, was a Muslim, probably more devout than Barack Obama Sr. His mother always spoke very highly of his father to little Barry. I believe that he also bonded with his stepfather. He was in Islam classes in the Catholic school he attended when he lived in Indonesia. So even if he doesn’t claim to be a Muslim now, it was his first religion. He has said that there is no prettier sound than the call to prayer in the evening…

The “church” he attended for 20 years is not a Christian church although it claims to be. It is a Black Liberation Theology “church,” which preaches a victimization mentality and prejudice against white people as the oppressors. As with other Liberation Theology institutions, it is communist at its base. This feels comfortable to Obama because his mother was a Communist as were his mother’s parents, and his father believed in socialism/communism. Although Obama Jr. had limited contact with his biological father, his mother constantly talked about what a great man he was, so he did become an influence on his son although he was not present.

He has no true religious faith at this time. It is my belief that once he is out of office, he will return to Islam and make that public. I base this on reading, and watching certain actions he has taken while in office.

I think we need to be very careful here. There are many, many people who sincerely hold the belief that the Catholic Church is not Christian.

It doesn’t matter what religion Obama follows. What matters is what he and his minions are planning to do to the Catholic Church here in the U.S.

Do you personally know about all this? There is so much rubbish said about Obama. You may not like his politics but it is not necessary to make personal attacks.

Could you show evidence that that Church is not a Christian Church? What is your evidence that Obama is Muslim at heart?

BTW Indonesia while has the most Muslims, is not a Muslim State. You will find Muslims and even Catholics in the same family so Obama living there for awhile is not proof of anything.

What personal attacks? I have based my beliefs about this man on reading I have done. You may have read other things. There are facts about his life although we have little documentation. The classes in Islam are described in his own books.

You can call Reverend Wright’s church Christian if you like. If you listen to his sermons, you hear a lot of stuff, but not Christianity.

I believe that Obama’s formative experiences with the only God he knows, were from Islam. From my reading and from actions he has taken through his Presidency, I do believe that his formative experiences are still within him. This is my opinion but again, it is based on his real experience.

I recommend reading “Dreams From My Father” especially, if you want to get to know President Obama.
