I am not sure if this is a something that I should ask or not but it is something that I have been wondering about. Why is does it mean when I see a post about “Reformers”. Who are they and why are they not seen in a good way?

Reformers are those who have tried to change the Catholic doctrine. Luther rejected many of the Catholic teachings and started the Lutheran church. This is a reformer. He tried to change Christianity from what it was to what he wanted it to be.

The Church was formed by Christ, and Luther and Calvin and Zwingle tried to re-form it.

Exactly. In other words, they are the orginal founders of the first Protestant sects. This happened in the early 1500s. Since then, Protestantism has splintered into thousands of sects/denominations.

The term “reform” is misleading. The Reformers were the first Protestants, and they didnt do any “reforming” in a good way.
What they did was break off from the Church and began to teach false doctrines. The mess the reformers caused can still be seen today with all the divisions among protestants.

A real reformer is someone like St. Catherine of Sienna who worked INSIDE the Church to bring about reform, namely in her case to bring back the Papacy to Rome where it belonged and away from the fleshpots of Avignon. Or, someone like St. Francis of Assisi who’s pious and holy life of poverty and humility sets up an example for those in the Church who liked luxury and coruption.

All the protestant “reformers” were no more than rebellious mutineers. They didn’t reform anything, they destroyed.
