I don’t know about free, but I’d look up Ignatius Press they tend to make some good movies.

I’m not sure of free to watch, but I recommend For Greater Glory, Of Gods and Men, and Pius XII.

Sorry for creating two threads on this. Stupid phone! And the stupid autocorrect in the OP.

I’m currently watching On the Waterfront, even tough its old and not in color. I’ll see if For Greater Glory is free on Amazon afterward.

Song of Bernadette, The Nun’s story, Shoes of the Fisherman, Therese, , Our Lady of Fatima, Passion of The Christ, Miracle of Marcellino. Lilies of the Field has nuns in it. I also believe “The Cardinal” is a good movie, too.

I watched part of “The Bells of St. Mary’s” the other day, and it was really good. 🙂 Honestly, I don’t know why a movie in color is any more interesting than black and white films; I actually prefer the latter in most cases! Plus, how can you go wrong with Ingrid Bergman and Bing Crosby???

Who? 🙂

Ooh, I just thought of a good one, although it’s black & white. The movie Beckett, which chronicles the struggles between St. Thomas Beckett and the crown, would be ideal for tomorrow, the Feast of St. Thomas Beckett!

Who??? Only the dude who sang pretty much any and all Christmas carols ever (Bing Crosby, youtube.com/watch?v=GJSUT8Inl14) and the coolest Swede ever (a.k.a. the infamous Ingrid Bergman, star of Casablanca and Notorious). 🙂 Seriously, if you haven’t heard of either of these fabulous performers, you need a little cinematographic education!

The Mission. An excellent film with an incredible soundtrack that is not only beautiful, but does an outstanding job of illuminating the complexities of the problems that South American missions experienced during colonization.

Well someone already mentioned the Passion of the Christ …

Not sure about the free part as I own all three of these on DVD … However, they are definitely worth viewing …

From the Vatican’s top movies of all time: [yes - really much to Hollywood’s surprise this movie made their 40 Best Movies of All time] … and though mentioned in a post already - it too deserves a re mention since it received the accolades of the Vatican

***The Mission ***… Robert Deniro and Jeremy Irons … I read the book about the making of the movie and own the two video box set where disk 2 is about the making of the movie and working with an indigenous tribe - all very interesting

Others that are very interesting:

The Edges of the Lord … Willem Defoe and Haley Joel Osment … situated in WWII Poland - interesting and both heartwarming and sad … story is told from the view point of a child/children

Before the Rain … Three languages: Macedonian, Albanian and some English - English subtitles …
Though not truly a Catholic Theme - this movie is about religious - ethnic conflict in Macedonia ergo Orthodox - Muslim … with some juxtaposition of the catholic - protestant conflict … its an intriguing story line [be for warned - if you are like me … when the movie ends - you will want to watch it again immediately - I won’t spoil the reason … and truthfully - I believe I catch some new aspect or detail every time I have watched it] … when it came out on DVD - I knew it would be one to have in my collection

Another movie that made the Vatican’s Top Movie list was*** Babette’s Feast*** … I do not own this movie but I have watched it many times and is very good … I actually watched it originally because it made the Vatican’s list and I was curious. This movie is foreign [Danish] with English subtitles … the predominant faith of the movie story-line is Protestant …

And though I think October Baby is a good movie - it too was produced by protestants - and is a movie about protestants - but does feature a Catholic priest in one scene and the portrayal was done very well - so I would not categorize it as a “Catholic” movie

Good viewing

Here is a link to that 199 article on the Vatican’s List of good movies … In 1995 I read the list in the Oregonian newspaper - but just now - I found this link with a google search …
