you could get some pamphlets and prayer cards and booklets pretty cheap from tan books and publishers to hand out…put them in peoples mail boxes, under their windscreen wipers, hand them out after mass to people leaving the church, give some to the local school to hand out to kids for their religion lessons etc

Does your parish have a Legion of Mary? If not you can ask the pastor’s permission to start one. The Legion of Mary in my parish went down to the skid row area of our downtown and handed out leaflets and medals to the homeless. Everyone who went said it was an increditable expirence.

LOL! Yeah I seriously doubt that I could actually go door to door like the Mormons do and talk to them about Catholicism. I don’t think I have that kind of courage or apologetics ability.Stay away from their front doors.
And besides, what if I came across a fundamentalist pastor or something and he asked me a question that just totally stumped me? What if I promised to give him an answer but wasn’t able to find one and had to admit to him that I simply couldn’t find an answer? I’d be afraid for that to happen because then I would feel like I made him stronger in his fundamentalist belief and increased his anti-Catholic beliefs.Hmm, I think I will talk to my Spiritual Director about this. I will probably ask my pastor about it too. However, our parish just received a new pastor and associate pastor and as far as I know, we don’t have any ministries outside of the standard ministries. I’d like to start a new ministry but I really don’t know if I have the kind of experience that is needed. After all, I definitely do not have any professional or college level training in apologetics or theology. I went through RCIA which was good and everything but I still occasionally have doubts myself about Catholicism. Usually those doubts aren’t enough for me to seriously the question the faith and even when they are, I just pray and usually the doubt goes away on its own. But regardless, I know that I don’t have enough theological and apologetics knowledge to defend the Catholic Church against serious anti-Catholic comments or questions.
Thanks Church Militant! I would love to purchase some Catholic pamphlets and tracts and such but unfortunately, I have no way to do so. I do not have a credit card and my bank account is under the control of my Grandpa. I have a very limited budget so I seriously doubt that I’d be able to purchase many of these. However, I have begun finding good Catholic apologetics articles online and then I’ll print out a copy or two of them and give them to my neighbors. I really have no idea whether or not this will produce any results.
Thank you Crystal Waters. I might possibly be able to convince my Grandpa into allowing me to buy some of these to give to friends. If not, I could at least buy a single copy of some of the titles and read up on them myself. I feel like it would do me well to expand my knowledge of the Catholic Church and her theology so that I can talk to people about it in more detail.
My parish does not have a Legion of Mary. A nearby parish does but it is not in my town. That said, I don’t know if I have the necessary experience and all that to be able to start one for my own parish. What exactly would starting a Legion of Mary involve?

Yet even worse, come across my door and watch me really throw you for a loop coming from the different sides just to watch you squirm. I’ve done the door thing and can tell you first handed that most people truly do not want any part of it. I was the fundamentalist that thought I knew more than everyone else. I left that world defending the poor Hispanic immigrants that did not know their Catholic faith very well. They were being targeted by our church and it began to work on my nerves when I saw another fundamentalist different from my own do the same to all of the children on my son’s football team. Within a year we found ourselves Catholic.LOL! Yeah I seriously doubt that I could actually go door to door like the Mormons do and talk to them about Catholicism. Start a Rosary group in your parish. Advertise in the church bulletin and/or have the lector make an altar annoucement before Mass. Meet once a week in your Church (after one of the Masses is always convenient for a lot of people). This is something many people may like to participate in during Lent.
