Wow. Reading this makes me really glad I don’t watch more TV.

My list

Anything on MTV

Sponge Bob Square Pants

Little Britain. My wife and Daughter now say “Yeah, I know” about everything!!!

Desperate Housewives - Dysfunctional Housewives

Fornication Hospital - Grey’s Anatomy

Dexter - that good ol’ lovable serial killer who just got married. Cutting people up is so … … …

Peace,
Ed

AHapka,
Re Boston Legal, I didn’t get the impression they accepted it; if I remember correctly, they said that it was a teaching of the Catholic Church and that some millions of Catholics accepted it. Admittedly, it’s been awhile, though. The Catholic League went after them, but I never heard that a public apology or retraction was made.

The thing about Two and Half Men that made their slur even more reprehensible is that Martin Sheen, who appears on the show on a regular basis, is or was a Third Order Franciscan.
wow… that last thing is really weird…

Why would someone who knows Christ… enoguh to be a Franciscan… make such a rauchy show???

I guess the devil works in mysterious ways also… 😦

What I think is interesting is the way that they accept the teaching that it’s the Body of Christ, and use it in the storyline.

After all, if they thought the Church was wrong and that it is just a symbol, there would be no meaning to the storyline.

It makes me hope for all people in that even when they are using the Church for blasphemy, there must be some part of them that believes what the Church is teaching. Perhaps that little bit of knowledge will help them repent someday.

It’s funny how I know people who say it’s just a symbol, but yet the writers of this show must have believed it to a certain extent to write the storyline. I’m also glad they were aware of it, there are many who are not.
I’ve been thinking about this… and i didn’t see the show but i tend to think (now ) that it is wrong to give the producers (etc) the benefit of the doubt… I think they are just trying to focus on the concept that Catholics “believe in cannabalism”… just another way to discredit the RCC…

Boston Legal; once my favorite show, stopped watching because during defense of a homeless man who ate his deceased friend, they used the Eucharist as a means to defend cannabalism;

Two and A Half Men, because they made a sexual innuendo about the relationships within the Trinity;

A lot of what’s left ties for 3rd.
I stopped watching Boston Legal too. They went finally went too far one show and I just stopped watching.

Really? I didn’t know that. I know Martin Sheen’s son, Charlie Sheen, is a regular in the cast of that show, but I didn’t know that Martin Sheen also appeared on it. My husband had an episode of that show on for a few minutes yesterday and I couldn’t believe he stopped on it. It has absolutely no appeal for me at all. Of course, that is the case regarding most things on TV for me, most of it is garbage.🙂

thanks… i was getting the two Sheens mixed up…

I’m tired… i need to go to bed… or go eat meat… (a reference to the Hitler was a vegetarian Thread… :rolleyes: )… If you don’t get it… its not important anyway… 🙂

No, actually you were right. I did a search on Martin Sheen to try to figure out exactly what it means and what it entails to be a third order Franciscan (and if Martin Sheen is one) and I found that Martin Sheen HAS appeared on the “Two and a Half Men” show with his son, Charlie. A bit of trivia of interest (at least to me) is that Sheen adopted his stage name in honor of the Catholic archbishop and theologian, Fulton J. Sheen. Too bad Martin took a slight turn off the path somewhere (to appear in such a show), but hopefully he will not wander far and will return.

Martin Sheen used to make guest appearances as Charlie’s dad pretty regularly on the show. I don’t know about now since I haven’t watched it in a long time. Martin Sheen has also starred in Christian movies produced by Catholic companies. He played in The Fourth Wise Man (Paulist Productions) and a movie about Dorothy Day, which I think was also produced by Paulist. I remember seeing a photo of him marching for some cause wearing his Tau cross. I really like Martin Sheen and think he’s a good actor. He probably has absolutely no control over what’s said on the show, but since he’s a pretty visible practising Catholic, he should be careful about acting on any show that doesn’t respect Christianity / Catholicism.

He appeared as a Franciscan priest in the movie ‘Gospa’ about Our Lady’s (alleged) apparitions at Medjugorje.

Mind you, it’s not saying that much that he has appeared in these types of movies - even the atrocious Liz Hurley appeared in one movie based on the biblical story of Joseph.
