Hi, I know and believe that the eucharist is Jesus’s real blood and flesh and that they bring eternal life but do we receive spiritual benefits / gifts when we eat the eucharist ?
Let’s say that I have a bit of fear in me every time I receive communion because even if I believe the Church teachings on it, I don’t feel anything when eating the Host.
Thanks.

Certainly, provided one receives Him worthily in Holy Communion, i.e. in the state of sanctifying grace. If a person receives Him unworthily, then they receive Him unto their own condemnation (c.f. 1 Cor. 11: 23-32).

We become more united with Christ (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1391)

We are separated from our sinfulness (CCC #1393)

Our venial sins are wiped away. (CCC #1394)

Our communion with other Christians is strengthened. (CCC #1396)

We are reminded of those less fortunate than us. (CCC #1397)

Peace

Did you reconcile your mortal sins via Reconciliation prior to consuming the Eucharist?

Also, keep in mind that we practice the Catholic Faith, therefore continue to strengthen your practice of the faith. One particular growth that comes to mind is to consider consuming the life of Jesus Christ as an extension to eating, and allowing Christ to consume your life. Next time you partake, think about Jesus’ passion and crucifixion, namely that his mercy is willing to die for even the most corrupt sinners, then ponder receiving his love in that mercy, followed by focusing on your intention and plan to share that merciful love with others.

If that doesn’t help you feel something, please ask for more ideas because you are definitely helping me feel more love for the Eucharist just thinking about these things!

When we consume normal food, our bodies change (process) it and make it a part of us. Note that after swallowing, anyway, we’re not usually aware of much or any of this process.

When we consume the Eucharist, Jesus changes us to make us a part of him, or more like him. It’s nice to have some sense of this, but it’s not unusual when we don’t.

Be at peace. The benefits are there, even when we’re not sensible of them. It’s the primary reason I like to pray before the Blessed Sacrament; though the contact isn’t as intimate as Communion, being in the presence of God changes us. Even when we feel like we can’t connect God, or can’t pray, or we’re doing it all wrong, we still walk away from each attempt a little different, and over time this adds up in a big way!

Thank you very much for the answer. I will keep praying.

Perfect! That matches up with the Church’s teachings exactly!!! The Eucharist doesn’t have physical effects as such, so if you aren’t feeling anything physical but you believe… then you’re on the right track!!!
