What are the best Bible verses to prove Jesus is God?

Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed God?

14:62 And Jesus said to him: I am.
To call oneself the Son of God is not to call oneself God. Every Christian is a “Son of God”.

“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” - Romans 8:14

“Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham came to be, I AM.””

‭‭John‬ ‭8:58‬

“God replied to Moses: I am who I am. Then he added: This is what you will tell the Israelites: I AM has sent me to you.”

‭‭Exodus‬ ‭3:14
This is quickly debunked.

Jesus said the words “I am” which in Greek are “ego eimi”.

God in Exodus calls himself both “Ego eimi ho on” (I am who am) and “Ho on” (I am). Jesus here does not take on God’s name.

I have thought about this topic a lot and I can tell you that there are lots of bad arguments going around.

Personally, I do not think it is at all obvious from scripture that Jesus is God. I think it is only by the spirit guiding the church that this truth has been made known.

Are you saying that sacred Scripture is silent on Jesus being God?

The beginning of John’s gospel, for starters. As long as you’re not using the Watchtower translation, you should be able to understand that the Word was God, and that the Word is Jesus.

That’s what I think. But I shan’t go in to that. Suffice to say there are a lot of bad arguments. Probably the best to support the claim, in my opinion, is John’s prologue. But even that doesn’t go into the word being a person or anything that is the product of later development.

I always liked St Thomas’s (the doubter’s) words: My Lord and My God.

And I’ve heard the non-compelling argument that said St Thomas called Jesus “My Lord”, as he then looked heavenward and said “My God”.

Nope.

Jesus said “if you see me, you see the father.”

Thomas saw Jesus and thereby saw the father.

They were one! “That they may be one as you Father and I are one…”

Christians are also one with God.

“The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one.”

John 5:18. “Hereupon therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he did not only break the sabbath but also said God was his Father, making himself equal to God.”

No, not in the same sense as the Father is with the Son and the Holy Spirit.

There is a One and Three that we are not.

We clearly do not share God’s will perfectly.

The Son is the thought of God about Himself, so perfect and complete that it is a Person.

The Holy Spirit is the love that the Father has for the Son and the Son for the Father, so complete and perfect it is a Person.

We’re not that.

We have to be careful with “fluffy sounding fairy tale oneness” on earth.

In the book of Revelation Jesus is very clearly identified as the Alpha and Omega, as is The Father also. As a former Jehovah’s Witness I spent many hundreds of hours trying to convince people that Jesus is not God but being a conscientious fellow I eventually came to realise that I was arguing against what the holy scriptures make perfectly clear. It is there for all to read but in my experience some people tend to believe what they want to believe. I would never waste too much time arguing with people who refuse to let the scriptures reveal their truth.

One thing you can do is instead of immediately trying to defend against what the person said, in this case the person said that Jesus was not God, ask this person why he is saying that. Make this person defend his statements first. Then you can refute his assertions if need be…

Try Matthew Kelly’s book, Rediscovering Jesus. He has several chapters in there that discuss this whole question as to whether or not Jesus was God. Jesus says it in many different ways. He then does things to prove it such as healing people, walking on water, resurrecting people and resurrecting himself, etc.
