What are the common abuses in the Ordinary Form of the Mass?

I bring up the question, because there are some things I’ve taken for granted as normal which I’ve been told are abuses, leaving me scratching me head. Ex. Priest shouldnt be facing the laity, guitars and drums in mass, eucharistic ministers shouldn’t be blessing people, altar girls, etc. and I don’t really know what’s what anymore.

Follow what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says about the mass. If you want to know more, from an authoritative source, go to www.usccb.org and click on liturgy. It’s the official site of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops… You will find all of the documents there. If I’m not mistaken, there may even be commentaries on the rubrics. Another impeccable source of information is EWTN.com. Go to it’s library and click on liturgy. There are many good articles that comment on the rubrics.

Whatever you do, do not use the posts on the internet as your guide. There are posters who will speak with the mind of the Church. But there are many who will quote things out of context. There are others who will quote documents and interpret them, but in a way that a theologian can see that the person is in over his head. However, the other layman who may not have a theological background, may not see this. He will believe what he reads, because it sounds reasonable, when in fact there is a flaw in the thinking. I have seen my fair share of flawed answers to this question during my six years on CAF.

One thing to remember is that whatever is approved by the Church is not an abuse, not matter who says so. No one has the right to discourage another person from doing what the Church allows.
