actually my God is one , and he said the two things .
1- do this and you would go to heavenly paradise
2-if you do that you will certainly go to hell

do you wanna to say that god in christianity will not cast anyone into the hell
Islam Allah : Kill for the cause of Islam and you will go to heavenly paradise where there’ll be virgins for your sexual pleasure and wine in abundance at your disposal.

Christian God: Kill for the cause of Islam and you will surely go to hell.

It is hard to see how they could be the same one God.
we don’t eat or drink anything from sunrise to sunset in our fast
Christians are exhorted to fast and when they do they are to pray and to give alms. If they were to fast they can abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset. They can be exempted if they do not have the physical will power and the health to sustain it. I suppose it’s not much different in Islam.

Of course we don’t put Christians in prison if they do not fast during fasting season.

as a start , where did christians God said that ?

secondly , do you believe that God of OT is the same God of NT ?

thanks for the information
my knowledge about fasting of christians in our area is by not eating specific things , ( i think the Food which had a life as meat for example , not sure exactly )

We don’t separate the one and only God of all time.

There are certain things that are not done anymore in the olden days after God became human and lived on earth to save us from sin for those who believe.

Fasting is understood as abstinent from food. It is not implemented rigidly and it is not forced upon those who fast. As I said, if one cannot do it due to personal and health reason, one still can fast by abstaining from doing the things that one likes especially things that are not beneficial spiritually.

The fasting season is called Lent which is about forty days. It will culminate in the Easter festival - the passion, death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Fasting also can be done on a personal basis at any time and date, usually accompanied with prayers and penance.

God said, “Thou shalt not kill”.
are you wanna to say that God in islam commanded us to be killiers , which means consequently for you that every muslim is sinner untill he kills someone ?

so you believe that the same God of mosa (pbuh) is the same God of jesus (pbuh) although laws of OT are somehow close to islam ?

did he saved you from sin or saved you from punishment of sin , or in another words saved you from fearing to be a sinner 😃 , i think you need to rephrase your statement

The is a great difference in moral theology. Mohammad married a child and consummated the marriage when she was only 9 years old. He had many, many wives. Following his example, Muslims today permit a female child of any age to be given in marriage. Even babies are given in marriage and are sexual objects in a practice they call “thighing it” They also have temporary marriages that last only one night.

Not only that, your Allah seems to reward Muslims who kill and die for the cause of Islam with virgins and wine in heaven.

That definition (virgins and wine in heaven) seems to be new addition as I could not find it anywhere before Islam, so one can ask, how did Mohammad got this information? 🤷

Yes, that’s another difference alright. In sex and marriage, Mohammad was more privileged than other Muslims.

‘Thighing’ a baby is disgusting and outright pedophilia in Christianity and therefore it is a sin and seen as immoral. I don’t know whether that’s taught explicitly in the Quran but if Mohammad did it, we can be sure it is allowed in Islamic teaching, since according to them, Mohammad could not do any wrong and is a perfect example of a Muslim.

Thighing is disgusting for over 90% of muslims in the world , it’s shiah’s practice which not mentioned in any of sources of islam

stay in topic , this isn’t defference between two relegions or two theologies
it’s differences between 20 century laws of america and tradition of the world 1400 years ago
christians in the past were marry in such age , and no one ever condemned it from the church , and your bible have no theory about this issue

by the way , temporary marriage allowed in shiah practices only as this one which called “thighing”

i want clear answer please , do you believe that allah encourage muslims to be killers ?

is this commandment "“Thou shalt not kill”. means that you can’t kill your enemy in the battlefield and that you are not allowed to defend yourself and your country and that you are not allowed to punish the crimers killers by death punishment ?

how mosas (pbuh) interpreted this commandment practically , do you think that he disobeyed his lord in this one , because i think that you know that he engaged in wars , many prophets after him engaged in wars either as david (pbuh) for example

antichrist will be killed by jesus (pbuh) , can you consider it violating for the commandment , don’t you believe that jesus will return and kill the antichrist ?

elwill, please be fair to him - he is trying to point out the differences between the theology of the two religions. 🙂

Anyway, since you say ‘thighing’ is a Shiah practice, wouldn’t they have got the practice from Mohammad? If I’m not mistaken, shiah brand of Islam is even closer to your prophet than the Sunnis.

There was no child marriage in Christianity as far as I know, certainly none was endorsed that involved with a nine year old among the prophets.

if we don’t know enough about the age of prophet’s wifes ,so it’s not a proof that they were 18 years old either

do you know that In the USA last century, the age of consent was 10 years old. California was the first state to change the age of consent to 14, which it did in 1889. After California, other US states joined in and raised the age of consent too.
(Source: ageofconsent.com/comments/numberone.htm)
The French penal code raised the age from 11 to 13 only a century ago.

In the US (an example of a prominent western country, since the west had the greatest effect on the world in the last couple of centuries.) They considered a seven year old female competent on making decisions regarding sex, though it was raised later on (in 1886, after attempts to raise the age of consent, Delaware was the only state to retain the common law age of seven, while twenty five states set the minimum age at a mere ten.) In older times, children were not perceived in the same sense that we perceive them, but the perception was changed gradually, which is due to a great extent to industrialization, and of course sigmund freud and others came along with their theories and supported these changes in social thinking (the word adolescent itself was introduced as recently as 1904.)

i just wonder if the churchs were sleeping in these days , or if it was the church which changed these laws !
suddenly it became immoral after 2000 years just becasue mohammed (pbuh) married aishah while she was 9 according to some narrators and you wants to condemns him

do you know that jews according to OT were marrying girls in such ages , jesus were jew , what did he said about these practices , i think nothing
may be he didn’t find problems with it , what do you think ?

The last I know is that theology is the study of religions that deals with particular systems or school of religious beliefs and teachings. I don’t know how you can restrict him. The most you can do is refuse to discuss certain issue with him.
closer in what exactly ?
This would be the Shiah’s claim. They are the true followers of prophet Mohammad. How are you going to say that they do not follow the teaching of Islam/Mohammad? We have a Shiah poster here sometimes back and I thought his rationale about his belief was quite solid. I am not saying who is right or wrong - it is for you to decide among yourselves. But before you dismiss their belief you have to let them speak for themselves, no? Or you can qualify by saying that your belief is a Sunni’s belief (if you’re a Sunni).

You are quoting US law. The Church has nothing to do with it. I any case, for Catholic Christians, marriage is a Sacrament. In order to receive such Sacrament you must be of certain age; certainly not as a child who have not yet reached the age of consent or adulthood.

As I said, I don’t know of any child marriage that were consummated by the ancient prophets. Your Mohammad seems to make that precedent.

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh
Peace be unto you and so may the mercy of Allah and His blessings

The misunderstandings among all world religions are vast. Even among the most learned scholars, there are mistakes and false assumptions. This is natural since a lifetime is rarely enough to explore our own belief systems, and little time remains to fully understand another set of beliefs and/or practices.

One of the most oft repeated Hadith’s relates to the Prophet’s marriage to Aisha and her age of marriage. Among Islamic scholars there are differences of opinion about her age since Hadiths (oral traditions) on the subject are contradictory. The youngest age is 9 the oldest is 14 or 15.

This is rather like reading two history texts, one written by an SS officer in world war II and one written by a Jewish victim of Auschitz. Both are/were in Germany and both are presenting a particular view. You may say that the view of the SS officer is distorted, but you cannot say that the oral/written account is fabricated.

The Hadiths are similar. In the Islamic tradition we have more or less accepted Hadiths, and some Hadiths that are “equally accepted”. It is left to the scholar to decide. I have reviewed a scholarly work of 40 pages, examining the issue of Aisha’s age and all the Hadith’s related to the issue. Based on authentic Hadiths, contained in that work, Aisha was 14 (or near 15).

People choose information selectively, to support pre existsing assumptions. This is natural. But true liberation consists of non selective reading and study.

Inshahallah we will all expand our vision

Probably there are more areas where one can find critical differences in the two religions - and I would say they are critical. By critical I mean the consequence of doing them would be damnation.

I will lay out a few here:

(1) Marriages - it is a deadly sin for Christians to have more than one wife at any one time.
…Those I can think of at the moment but there are probably more that I may miss.
I would say it is insane to have more than one wife.

After all, God would rather build a eight lane freeway from CA to HI then explain women to men.

In fairness, was not Mary around 13 when she married Joseph? granted there is a big difference between 9 and 13 in our thinking.

So, how do Chrisitans and Muslims think differently and think the same?

I am getting at presumptions with this question.

Very sad but very true.

Two things… The Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition.

I can only assume that this comment is somewhat directed at the subject of 9/11… which indeed sucked. It was a horrible thing that happened because of some extremists who claimed to be doing the work of their faith. Sadly general thought (especially in America) leads to “well… they’re obviously ALL like that”.

People tend to fear what they do not understand but also fail to understand why they fear it. If they would only realize it’s a lack of education and choose to educate themselves objectively such fear may cease to exist.

Islam teaches that the word of God is a book. True Catholics believe the word of God is a man.

Very similar to the protestant practice of substituting Yeshua for a book.

Hi. You give very reasonable comment but please do not assume what other posters say and then proceed to make an opinion on the assumption. 😦

A fine apologetic effort but there are others who will not agree with you with the age of Aisha when the marriage was consummated. She was still playing with doll meaning that she did not pass the puberty age yet and was much younger when she was betrothed. Why she was only a child!

You give some good advice but it cuts both ways. I am all for honest, sincere and truthful discussion; if that’s what you mean, I am all for it.
