What are the excesses of Vatican II?

The Council itself had no excesses.

Some who went further than the Council documents in an attempt to implement “the spirit of Vatican II,” whatever that is, may have gone overboard on some occasions. Rather like a judge who uses the constitution as a springboard for his own agenda.

Nicely put, I totally agree.
 
too many people writing and talking about what the council didn’t do or say, rather than what actually transpired.

We can eat meat on non-Lenten Fridays. And we don’t have to fast from midnight the night before Mass (which is really hard to do if you’re going to an evening Vigil Mass - oh, wait - that’s another “excess”).

Pretty radical stuff.

Wasn’t the evening Vigil mass introduced in 1954 or 1957 (or at some point in the 50s) ?​

The Eucharistic fast was relaxed in the 50s, from beginning with the preceding midnight to being at least three hours in length; though the older fast was encouraged nonetheless. The hour-long fast was introduced in 1964, IIRC. ##
 
It really depends on who you talk to. That’s why we have a church heirarchy and a pope chosen with the guidance of the Holy Spirit to give us the final word on our faith. They gave us Vatican II and the rest of us just have to trust that God won’t let His church get swept in completely the wrong direction. 🙂

Well, some type of Mass was, maybe a midnight Easter Vigil. I remember going.

Which made a lot more sense than midnight. Before a 10 AM Mass was the same for a 6 AM. Very few went to communion at late Mass. My Dad always had a headache from fasting for the 8 am Mass because he had been up since 4:30.
