What are the implications of the "filioque" doctrine?

When Orthodox read “filioque” passages of the early Church Fathers (or writers), do they believe the Fathers to be in slight error, or do Orthdoox assume that the early Fathers (Christian writers) meant something different than what most Catholics believe when they hear the filioque?
St John Chrysostom believed and wrote that Mary the mother of God had committed sin. In this particular subject he had deviated from the teaching of the Church so we recognise it as error. The teaching of one or two or even twenty bishops do not trump the teaching of the church, and the teaching of the Church regarding the procession of the Holy Spirit was declared by 150 bishops at the 1st council of Contantinople and has been reaffirmed by over 1000 bishops at the subsequent councils.
