What are the main tenants of the Wiccan faith?

I knew there was some reason I liked them, despite their being dualists!🙂

Actually, if anyone on here really has a serious interest in getting a no-nonsense inside view of Wicca, I would recommend a couple of titles by Kerr Cuhulain, “Wiccan Warrior” and “Full Contact Magick.” I had the very good fortune to meet this man early in my training, and he put to rest any doubts I had that Wicca was something only for inherently flaky people or young women. Kerr was a Canadian Air Force officer in his younger days and spent most of his career after that as a Vancouver police officer and detective. Last I knew he retired from that and now works in their version of the 9-1-1 call center. He’s obviously not some disaffected Emo kid. He’s a man of very solid character and

temperament. He knows his mythology and does his research and can explain very well what the heart and soul and practice of Wicca is really about, at least to a lot of us. His own practice has a focus on warrior archetypes and martial arts training, which is not entirely typical, but works very well in practice. He also led (and may still for all I know), an organization of pagan law enforcement officers and other emergency responders called Officers of Avalon, and I’m proud to say they were some of the first people on the ground after Hurricane Katrina.

As I understand Wicca they do not seek to separate the “soul” from the “body”. What occurs in the “material plane” is an “echo” of the “spiritual plane”…“as above, so below”.

In Wicca the body is sacred. The sex act too is sacred. One of the misconceptions that most Christians…especially those of the “conservative” persuasion…have concerning Wicca is the misunderstanding of it’s sexual ethic.

Each incarnation carries with it responsibilities…but Wicca is very grounded in THIS WORLD…not at all like Gnostics who somehow felt this world was a creation of the Demiurge and not at all “spiritual”. Gnostics viewed humanity as trapped “beings of light” in a carnal prison.

Wicca on the other hand sees THIS WORLD as sacred…each tree…each rock…each plant…each animal as a reflection of the Divine…Wicca shares little with Gnosticism…which was “Jewish/Christian” in it’s mythology.

I read “Wiccan Warrior” and enjoyed it very much. It is one of the few books about Wicca that actually had some “substance” to it and reflected a deepening spirituality…something I have found lacking in most books. Starhawk’s books are the only other writings about Wicca that has any “spiritual depth” in my opinion.

I think everyone here has missed the OP’s real question.

A tenet is an opinion, principle, doctrine, or dogma.

A tenant is a renter, occupant, or inhabitant.

The main tenants of Wicca are witches and warlocks.

(Sorry, I know that was uncalled-for.)

The works of Nigel Pennick, Nigel Jackson and Professor Ronald Hutton also have a lot of depth to them if you want to learn more about modern Paganism.
 
I still say it couldn’t hurt to rent The Wicker Man at Blockbuster and see Christopher Lee running an island of pagan druids. Listening to Spinal Tap’s song “Stonehenge” couldn’t hurt either! 🙂

Which one? Wicker Man or This is Spinal Tap? I love the Spinal Tap scene where the incorrectly-proportioned stonehenge comes out of the air while they’re jamming. Classic!! Wicker Man is a supposed classic I’ve heard of my whole life. I watched it free on-demand on Comcast this summer. That was two hours of my life I’ll never get back…:mad:

They do not really have any. Some illdefined idea about a goddess and horned god (they calim it is not satan) and some illdefined morals -an do what you want an harm ye none-. They tend to just make it up as they go along. Wicca was created by alister crowley as a favour to gerald gardner (who claimed to have found the religion of cavemen/ ancient pagans) to help get him laid. wiccans practice a form of natural magik (magik being a corruption of religion/prayer) and make all kinds of odd claims like having the power to curse people (which they say they would never do) or see the future. in short they have no developed theology and tend to be enviromentists who like the idea fo having the power to make changes with their magik powers. I practiced it for a while when I was younger and just got fed up with the lack of depth to it and its worthless claims like how ancient it is (not yet one hundred years old) and how millions of witchs were killed by the evil Christians.
