Again, instead of the typical sarcasm you like to employ, how about answering why, outside of laws, are you moral?
This has been done to death here, so I recommend you do some back reading.
I find often with my posts you, get an answer, then disappear.
My replies to you???

I don’t know what you mean.

But it’s worth remebering I don’t live on line, nor here on this forum.

I have a family to care for, a business to run, friends to spend time with, and my animals to look after, and generally, a life to live 😉

I dip in here as and when time, and my inclinations, permit.

I’ve no idea. I’m not a spokewoman for atheism.

I don’t need ‘‘morally based gatherings’’ to feel good about myself.

I derive my wellbeing from a loving family, the best friends in the world, a successful business that provides jobs and wealth locally, my animals, and knowing I give back as much as I get from the community in time, expertize and money.

If all of that was taken away in a flash, or, if it never existed, I’d still have a high sense of wellbeing and happiness, because I’m a happy person by nature, and see the positives and the good in everything, everywhere.

Sarah x 🙂
Claiming to “not be spokesman for Atheism” is a poor defense. Knowing what you believe and how to defend it should be important to one who aspouses a particular lifestyle.

Personally I follow, not with perfection , the teachings of the church. That is the basis for my morality. What is yours?
Be careful, that’s skirting pretty close to Divine Command Theory.

I don’t get my morality from the church, or the teachings of the church, obviously.

Can you work out where my morals come from?

Yes, your previous replies to me on other threads if that helps you. You don’t have to live on line, I don’t either. It’s just nice to follow up and be curteous.

I understand where you are going. Sometimes morality requires guidance.
But back to my question that remains unanswered by you. Why be moral?

No it’s accurate, truthful and a fact. Nothing poorly about it at all.

Some one once said, I can’t remember who, not every question is equal, and not every question deserves an answer.

I’ve been defending my views here for a year and a quater.

I have no problem doing so, but, some questions from some questioners are best ignored really, because the questioner isnt interested in an answer, just making a predeterminded point, you know, something like, atheists cant be moral, or, my absolute favorite so far, when a Catholic poster here said, if he discovered there was no God, he would go out and murder and kill anyone he liked to, because there’s no morality without God lol.

There’s really no point in engaging such people in any kind of conversation, because there’s none to be had with them.

Ok, let me make it really clear because you seem to think I’m going to answer that question.

I am NOT, I’ll say it again, I am NOT going to answer the question you asked.

I asked you to work it out for yourself.

If you can come up with anything, come back and we can have a conversation about your thoughts

Otherwise, it’s been done to death here, and as I suggested, do some back reading.

Sound like giving up easy based on your belief that few could learn anything from persistence. I wonder if morality is instilled, or you learn it.🙂

To me, this response is unfair and unreasonable. It is also off topic.

I have no idea what you’re talking about.

I’m not giving up on anything.

You’ve been asked to answer your own question, or at least start exploring it from different perspectives.

Sounds like you rather just take up time quipping here, instead of doing some reading and thinking.

Oh well.

Never mind.

Still didn’t answer the question. That’s the real “oh well.”

I would say that your morals come from your culture. Luck for you, your culture is probably overflowing with God-based Christian morals and charity.

If you were an atheist who few up among savages, you would have savage morals.

To stay on topic:

I was an agnostic. I can’t as yet prove logically that a creator exists - but it’s that very lack of being able to prove or disprove that lead me to faith that this world of ours was created.

Simply, the infinite universes of time and space are too big for a creator not to exist. Infinity begets all possibilities.

As for my growth in believing of our singular triune Christian God, that’s a much harder for me to explain in a few words. But the continual love and sacrifice our God has shown was the beginning of my true faith.

Luck for you, your culture is probably overflowing with God-based Christian morals and charity…
My culture predates the arrival of Christianity 😉

By God Based Christian morals and charity, do you mean forced starvation marches, your land being stolen from you, laws enacted to fence you in and drive you from your land, forced removal of children to be ‘‘educated’’, and enslaved labor?

All conducted by God fearing Christians, and blessed by men of the cloth.

Those God based Christian morals and charity???

Individual Christians <> Christianity.

If it is on topic.
If you thought my answer, and that’s what it was, an answer, was off topic, you will have a good time spending remainder of your days on this forum with “corrections”.

Would it be unfair to say that your are seeped in Western Civilization? Certainly the mode of communication and the very language we are using to write to each other would indicate that.

While we all can trace familial roots to other civilizations, but our very dialog here would seem to indicate that they are not primary.

I would think that a logical thinker would be more receptive to the notion that, if anything, morals would be the hardest thing to create Ex Nilhilo.

If I am incorrect, I would be fascinated to learn to hear how you developed your morals from nothing, and if I would be more curious to know if you felt that those morals would have developed identically if you were hypothetically the only person in the world.

From the Pope down

For balance I also read this from EWTN:

I must say though, it’s fascinating to consider how, despite the assertions of misunderstandings and misinterpretations, and what ever else, such widespread abuses could continue unabated at just about every level of the Church, and not just the Catholic Church, but most Christian and Muslim church groups also.

I just so glad I never had to rely on such august institutions to get my sense of self worth and value.

Were I alive at the time, I’d have had a short sweet life, fighting with all Im worth, those who’d dare to suggest I wasn’t fully human, a savage, an infidel, someone to be subdued and over powered and pressed into compliance.
