What are the primary texts of fundamentalists?

Usually, the Scofield Reference Bible, Jack Chick tracts, Roman Catholicism by Lorraine Boettner and the Fundamentals by Reuben Archer Torrey. What other “ammunition” do they grap onto to most often?

To answer the question, I prefer the Ante-Nicene Fathers…although the movie left out so many key details I would recommend the books…

Could you define what you mean by Fundamentalist or “fundies”.
Also, are you answering your own thread by making the assumption that these “fundies” use the above mentioned books/materials. Just need more clarification to your question.

Conservative evangelical Christians who reject all documents save for the Bible, typically anti-Catholic and King James Onlyists.

Also, are you answering your own thread by making the assumption that these “fundies” use the above mentioned books/materials.

In an attempt to learn the train of thought and common arguments of said Christians, I would like to read more texts commonly used by them.

The first 4, would fit the king james and anti-Catholic church category very well; and the last one is more tame, but has alot of books on creationism (a literal view/interpretation of Genesis). I hope this is helpful.

Of the christians I know, I cannot name a single one who relys only on the Bible as a source.

Of any author I have read, I have never read one who only takes the Bible as a source.

The only thing I can think of that remotely comes close is, if there is something that directly contridicts the Bible, then the Bible wins the arguement.

So, who are these people everyone discusses on these forums so much???

I’ve noticed a strong biblical basis in their practices, it’s just that the interpretation is very, very literal, sometimes entirely out of context and some very odd things are emphasized. What is emphasized can vary from group to group because there is no centralized body.

Many of their groups feel that the KJV was “divinely inspired” so there is no need to look at other translations or original text. My fundamentalist evangelical uncles (one is a pastor) refer only to the KJV, but I might recommend the “left behind” series if you’d just like an idea of where they are coming from.

It’s religious fiction and it’s entertaining (and sometimes appalling), but it’s view of Christianity is unapologetically fundamentalist and of course, promotes their viewpoint. I believe at least one of the authors lectures at a fundamentalist-evangelical college. Just a note, the series is long and available at most public libraries, so I’d borrow if I were you. As it gets closer to the end, you’ll realize how extremely different this viewpoint is from Catholicism.
