Our bulletin has a flyer promoting “Whole Communites of Faith”. The speaker is Steven Ellair out of the Religious Education Office in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. I am wondering what is the program “Whole Communites of Faith” and who this gentlemen Steven Ellair is? Most importantly is this program loyal to the Magisterium of the Church and her true teachings?

well, it is l.a. archdiocese, so i doubt “loyalty” will have anything to do with precision. it won’t be outright heresy, but it will be ‘different’. a prevalent attitude in the diocese is to focus on the community. they think that building the community builds the Body of Christ, instead of the more correct view that the community results from the people being the Body of Christ, as St. Paul says (see 1 Cor 10:17). for a resent teaching on this, read JPII’s Mane Nobiscum Domine, especially nn. 20-21.

i live in l.a. and for the most part, i am not a fan of the overall pastoral approach.

let us know what this turns out to be. it could be about ‘whole community catechesis’ which is a new fangled approach to unifying large communities.

google the guy’s name and see what you get.
