How are you preparing for Easter?

I’m reading 20 pages from the Catechism each day. Only 700 pages to go! 🙂

I was having a hard time coming up with something and on the way to work I was listening to the EWTN radio and a guy was talking about reading the bible. So I decided to read a chapter a day. I’m hoping the habit will be ingrained by Easter and I’ll continue to read the whole book through. I’m starting with the NT and Matthew.

I’m reading 2 chapters a day from the four gospels. The readings will end on Good Friday when the final chapter of John has been completed. I was going to do my usual of giving up caffeine, but decided that I wanted to “do something” this Lent instead of “give something up.”

Lent isnt a time about us, but a time about those around us…

A time to humble ourselves, to recognize our insignificant self and denial of our wants, and put others in front of us, to call others back to church and God.

Fasting on Wednesdays for the intentions of reparation to God for the sins of mankind and for society’s reversion back to God

I struggled in the weeks before Lent to find something to give up. Our three month old is allergic to everything at the moment and since I’m nursing him, that means I’m giving up pretty much everything (already) too: wheat, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts (including coconuts), potatoes… and we keep finding new allergies. So my initial plan of giving up meat for all of lent is out the door since meat, fruits and veggies are pretty much it for me at the moment.

One of the things DH and I agreed on was to give up eating out. It sounds like a small thing. It’s not something we do all that often. But it’s something I look forward to immensely since a lot of energy goes towards cooking everything from scratch and so it is something that comes to mind frequently, along with a “no, that’s not an option” response.

We already pray the rosary as a family, and the rest of my time usually is working either with the kids or sewing late into the night to help make ends meet, so while I’m trying to squeeze in time to read more (and pray more!) I’m being gentler with myself this year than I have been in the past and trying not to go overboard. It kind of feels like I’ve already given up everything all the time that I’d usually given up for Lent, while DH is in school, so it’s hard to think of things that are left… I imagine in this economy a lot of people feel that way though…

I’m giving up cream in my coffee (BLECK!!), reading the bible every night, no radio in the car, no singing (this one is HARD for me, apparently I sing all the time!), and I’m trying not to complain.
EDIT: I forgot, I’m also forcing myself to go to bed before midnight every night.

I’m giving up all sweets, all TV, all videogames and all anime/manga. Might not seem like a lot, but they’re things that take up a good portion of my free time.

I’m praying the Liturgy of the Hours, reading the Magnificat Lenten Companion, the Rosary-the whole she-bang in prayer-as I’m able. I’m increasing my parish offerings and donations. I’m doing more house-cleaning, being nicer to others, and generally eating less. No pizza. No steak. No fancy coffee drinks, only normal coffee.😃

:clapping: You, Jennifoo, have my respect. That’s quite a list!

Adding morning and night hours from the Divine Liturgy, reading the Magnificat Lenten Companion, abstaining on Wednesdays. Also as a family, we are each adding one item per day to a box that we plan to donate after Easter (so 4 people x 40 days = 160 items given up from our home).

What I,am doing for Lent is,offering all my pains, and sufferings up to God.

Nothing much. :o Please pray for me. It has become more and more difficult to do the things you used to do. I can do with less portion of meal as such. Other abstainance is not so easy. I would like to come back to have a meaningful prayer time, to spend time with the Lord and not to be distracted.

I don’t even know yet:o

Although Im skipping breakfasts just to teach me some discipline. I love breakfasts!

Giving up getting coffee out, like Starbucks and McDonald’s.

Praying the Rosary every day
Reading the daily readings and a reflection every day
Reading the 40 Days for Life devotional every day
Going to pray in front of the abortion center at least once during Lent

I wanted to volunteer at a pregnancy assistance center but neither one responded to me.

I’m fasting cigarettes Wed’s and Fri’s and
now I’m praying on my knees instead of
sitting “assume the position”.

I’m being quite extreme this year. I’d felt it would be necessary and so planned to weeks before the news about Benedict and it seems all the more pertinent now.

I’m praying the Rosary every day (this isn’t that extreme I know but with an Anglican wife it can be tough). Also I’m living on bread and water only for the duration of Lent - excluding Sundays of course.
