Hello y’all,

I was just wondering what are you doing or giving up for Lent?

For me personally, I am increasing with my spiritual exercises.

I will try and pray 15 decades of the rosary daily,
pray the LOTH with my Christian Prayer volume,
Read Scripture more,
Read one of these books:
Story of a Soul by St. Therese of Lisieux
Diary of St. Faustina
Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis
(or all three)
and try and pray the Way of the Cross at least once a week

God bless!

I want to volunteer/work with people in need or to visit and pray with the sick at least once a week.

We (my husband and I) are going to try to give up grumpy ness. My plan is every time I feel grumpy to make a funny noise (like a cow, duck, or raspberry sounds instead of raising my voice to yell. Pray for us.

Dear Landon. For me Lent is a private, personal endeavor between me and God. I don’t really say what I am giving up or sacrificing during the forty days of penance. It is just my way. If I fail or slide, then only God and I know about it and only He can judge my shortcomings. This is not to say that I do nothing, but only that I just don’t advertise. It says in the Bible that when we pray we should go to our rooms and pray in private and that is what I try to do. So, I just keep my Lenten exercise a “secret.” That works for me, but it may not be the choice for everyone. However, I do admire your commitment to “go for broke” during Lent. I will tell you an “open secret.” I love chocolate. Now, don’t you tell on me!

Pax Christi!

For abstainance: caffeine and game apps. Also, daily, attack some personal weaknesses. Sloth, primarily. I plan to start a few new groups on CAF.

I’ll be the lector Ash Wednesday morning, but that’s not a sacrifice, that’s a joy.

To re-read The Story of a Soul would, again, be a joy. So maybe I’ll try The Imitation of Christ again. That was work!

God bless.

I plan on performing a absolute fast from food on Friday’s and praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy everyday after my Rosary and read more on the mystic saints that “saw dead people”…

I’m giving up sweets and Ranch dressing, and adding daily exercise and prayer.

I know it seems a little silly, but the sweets and ranch aren’t minor sacrifices, I eat far more of both of those than I should and significantly more than is healthy >_> I’m going to miss my ranch T_T

A lot of prayer, as a family we will eat fish on Wednesday’s and Friday’s. I haven’t decided on what to give up. I haven’t given up on anything the last several years doh.

Daily Rosary and though it may sound silly, at least once during Lent I pray that I will have the courage to stand in front of the local Planned Parenthood and pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet.

I am going to try to (again! and you wouldn’t believe I have that problem, skinny as I am) eating out of nervousness (that is, for example, I didn’t really want to eat yet, but I get a mail that mkaes me upset, then I almost automatically break off a piece of that bread close by and before I know it I have eaten without being really aware of it) and instead offer that nervousness up to God respectively use it for “energy” for prayer and growth in patience;

and along the same lines I think I will also try to generally tackle getting so nervous and upset (and letting that out on others) over little things.

I also again want to keep a special spiritual journal, and as a singer/songwriter maybe write and perform some more spiritually oriented songs (I do street music).

I’m planning to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet daily, give up sweets, make the Stations of the Cross (which I’ve never done before), and make a pilgrimage to the Basilica of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

I would love to go to Adoration! Unfortunately my Diocese doesn’t appear to be a big supporter of it. There are churches that have it, but the times are so limited and mostly in the middle of the day. They are way too far away for me to get to. However there is one parish nearby that I found that has Adoration on Tuesdays until 8pm! I’m going to try and check it out. I’ve only been to Adoration 1x when I was traveling for work and I found a Perpetual chapel within walking distance from my hotel. I loved it and it was amazing!

How Blessed are we in my parish…we have Adoration everyday during the week for two hours at night and 24 hour Adoration beginning thursday after morning Mass until Friday morning before morning Mass…but our biggest Blessing is 40 days of 24 hour perpetual Adoration during Lent, it has been a blessing in so many ways. I believe every parish in this country should be dedicated to bring perpetual Adoration to their parishes.
We also have Stations of the Cross every Friday night, preceded by the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. We also pray the chaplet before every Mass during Lent, including daily Mass. Go to your Pastors and tell them you would like Adoration in your churches, and see what Blessings flow to you. God Bless all for a fruitful Lent!

Thank you and same to you! We also have the Stations every Friday during Lent and I plan to attend with my family at least once. I also plan to join our Rosary group on Tuesday evenings prior to Mass, where we pray the Rosary & Divine Mercy Chaplet.

I have toyed with approaching our Pastor about Adoration in our church. I sort of feel bad about doing it as he is only 1 priest for a 1600+ family parish and already has so much on his plate. In addition, I have researched the dedication it takes for a parish to have Adoration and I’m skeptical that our parish would even jump on board with it. But I suppose it doesn’t hurt to ask right!? 🙂

Just some ideas from a prayer cube I have seen.

Fast from Anger and Hatred
Fast from Judging Others
Fast from Discouragement
Fast from Complaining
Fast from Resentment or Bitterness
Fast from Over-Spending

First off, our Pastor does not coordinate Adoration, we have a volunteer who coordinates all Adoration hours(she does an amazing job), our Pastor does indeed have his own hour of Adoration that he fills just like the rest of the Adorers!! Dedication…yuuup, it certainly takes that, but with God all things are possible, and once you start…there is no other hour more important!! Start small, find two or three who are willing to start Adoration even on one night for a few hours and then approach him with it. Don’t be skeptical!! SEEK Him in the Most Blessed Sacrament and then just see what happens. One of my most favorite hours of Adoration…4a.m. The Peace is palpable, it’s overwhelming at times…a weekly Blessing!
