What are you doing for Lent?

So what is everyone doing differently for Lent this year? What are you giving up or doing extra (other than of course the compulsory fasting/abstinence). I ask out of interest but also because I haven’t thought of anything specific myself yet so I’m interesting to here what everyone is [not] doing.

I’d love to give up YouTube for Lent, but I’m not sure if I’d be able to do it. YouTube is extremely addictive.

The only issues I’d see is if I need to watch something for homework, or if a professor shows us a YouTube video. In that case, I would probably be breaking the Lenten fast thing and I’m not sure if it’s sinful to do that or not.

Nothing at all, full stop, beyond the required fasting and abstinence.

This has been a hideous year for me and after “giving what God takes,” I am not motivated one whit to give any more.

You could give up all Youtube except that which you have to do for schoolwork.

It is not sinful to “break” a voluntary fast.

Unfortunately CAF has become spiritually unhealthy for me over the last 6 months, so I will give up CAF and replace it with adoration and more prayer. Both will benefit me spiritually; even more so if I leave CAF permanently.

Hopefully thoroughly clean my house, declutter, and get the storage areas (attic/basement/garage–type areas). Maybe even paint!

I’m going to give up music, except for my Gregorian Chants, which hopefully my roommates won’t get too sick of by Easter!! 🙂

May God bless you all! 🙂

I will try to get up earlier in the morning. I will try not to spend half the morning in my bathrobe, drinking coffee and working on the computer.

I will try to pull some weeds, get the house in order, and the list goes on.

Just thinking about it makes me feel like not getting up in the morning.

In other words, I am a “casual” housekeeper, never having liked housework. It’s a penance, a real drag, and it makes me feel like I’m a prisoner on a chain gang working for nothing. But it has to be done, or I’ll end up with “pets”…little bitty ones with antennae and six legs.

I’m giving up Facebook and using that free time to improve my prayer life and reading and studying my bible.

I am also committing to going back to Church and Eucharistic Adoration.

It’s about time. :yup:

I love chocolate so a couple of years ago I gave up chocolate for Lent – UGH!!! I promised myself that the first thing I would do on Easter morning was have a piece of chocolate – what happened --I forgot!!!

I was thinking about soda, but I’m not sure, I have to pick something I’m gonna remember and I’m so accustomed to drinking soda I’ll probably break it on the first day…

Lucky you, I keep praying for God to give me some sort of suffering so that I can offer it up to Him for the Holy Souls in Purgatory, the salvation of souls and in reparation but He seems to have other plans for me…

No need to pray for suffering. You’ll get it soon enough. Full stop!

I can relate.

I actually love soda, especially lemon-lime sodas. 7-UP is my favorite. I drink diet sodas, and I like the flavored ones.

I especially like those Coke machines that are in certain fast food places where you can mix your own flavors together. Ahh…so refreshing. 😛

Anyway, I was drinking too much soda–at least for me–at one point in time, so I started replacing the amount of soda that I was drinking, with water instead, so now I drink more water than soda.

I will drink soda on occasion, but not as much now, and not as often. It was hard to do, but I was able to do it.

We are to ask God for martyrdom nor to become victim souls, so I think we should not ask for suffering but for acceptance of His will for us.

But a little mortification never hurt anyone… what are you giving up for Lent? 🙂

I’m going to try to sleep on the floor.

We’ll see how long this lasts.

For lent, I will be following Mathew Kelley’s “Best Lent Ever”. It’s a great series. You can find it on www.DynamicCatholic.com. I’m also trying Bishop Robert Barron’s Lenten series (his website is Word on Fire). I’ve found this type of programming seems to inspire more reflection time.

God Bless You.

My wife and I are giving up fast food (the top 5 fast food places: BK, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Wendy’s and Sonic). I’m also giving up Family Guy, especially because it can be a very vulgar show. I’m ashamed to say it but it’s probably my favorite show, and it would be good to get away from it. Hopefully during Lent, as I draw closer to Christ, I can move further away from that show.

I’ve also committed to daily mass, daily rosary, daily Monastic silence, weekly Adoration, and spiritual reading.
