What are you doing to avoid the virus?

Are you doing anything extra, or above and beyond, or just the normal, recommended guidelines? We live in Iowa, and it is just starting to hit hard here, at least where I live, which is near Sioux City.

I’m just following the guidelines as recommended by my county sheriff. The only time I’ve gone outside is to walk my dog or buy takeout.

I am high risk, so when I go to the store, I wear gloves and a mask. I’ve always washed my hands a lot, so that is not really an issue. And GLADLY social distancing.

Do you worry about the health, and common sense, of the people who prepare the takeout?

I’ve had to keep working because I am in the essential group, so going stir crazy is not a problem. My kids have to deal with a lot of boredom.

Not really. The place I got takeout from only allows two people to be inside at the same time. Plus the workers at the place I go to are very clean and always wash their hands.

I’m in Ohio, so we’ve been going hard for a month now. I’ve mostly just been staying home, going out for work and just to avoid cabin fever. I try wearing masks, but it’s hard to do with glasses.

I cannot understand people who do not wear masks in public. My wife was at the store yesterday and saw people giving high-fives, hugging, standing next to each other, and not wearing masks.

I have a big nose and I really should shave my beard. I bet that would make it much more comfy. I will tell you, I have noticed a large uptick of people wearing them.

If I can get some filters, I might dig out my old gas mask. It has the double benefit of superior protection and ensuring that people stay 30 feet away from me.

At Walmart, you need both.

Hahaha! Definitely. We usually avoid Walmart. Do your glasses fog up, or just fall off because of the shape of the mask?

I actually don’t remember ever having a fog problem- it was just uncomfortable having the two on at the same time since the mask pushes on the edges.

There’s special frames that you can have installed behind the mask lenses, if I remember correctly. I didn’t have the money to spare at the time, though.

I stay home except when I need groceries or a prescription refilled.
I wash my hands a lot and wear the mask and gloves when I do go out.
That’s about all I know to do anyway.

I’m being cautious to the extreme. My roommate is a front line worker at a morgue and I live in Brooklyn. I just left my apt for the first time yesterday because I needed to pick up some tech from my job. Thank goodness I did not have to get on public transit and can walk there. I wear a mask in our common areas and sanitize everything I can and wash up frequently. We text each other before moving about to maintain social distance in the apartment. My second roommate is staying with a girlfriend so I’m using his bathroom to keep us separate. I have bottles with bleach and alcohol at the ready. All of my groceries and other supplies are delivered aside from ordering one pizza (I like to cook but was getting tired of it after seven weeks, I reheated it before eating just to make sure) and stopping to get wine on the way back from my work field trip (I feel I deserve it).

Unfortunately, I found out this morning that my uncle in Texas tested positive. He is a bus driver. I’m frustrated because my father has not confirmed if he was wearing a mask or not and kept going on about him being a germaphobe and constantly disinfecting and using sanitizer. You can do all that but nose and mouth is vitally important. So many people are still so weird about wearing a mask that it angers me. I saw people on the street wearing them completely wrong with mouth and nose not covered, I don’t get it.

Nothing.

What?

Not shopping.
Not going to restaurants.
Not having coffee with the guys.
Not vising neighbors and friends.

It’s not so much what we do - it’s what we stop doing.

and nose not covered, I don’t get it.
I know, I work with people who do not cover their nose while wearing it because it makes their glasses fog up. My own sister said she is not afraid of getting it, so she doesn’t wear a mask, but never mind she could give it to someone who is wearing a mask.

I wear glasses and just deal, it’s better than catching a deadly virus. If you aren’t wearing it properly, why bother? It’s not a fashion statement. Plus, there are people who do not have enough cognitive reasoning ability and may mirror those doing this, thinking it’s okay. I try to give grace for those with a lower intellect but when I know perfectly capable people are not doing this properly, I’m irked beyond measure.

Speaking of sanitizing (which I forgot to mention):

Walmart near me FINALLY stocks hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes again. I have a small bottle of sanitizer in my car that I wash my hands with after I wipe down my groceries with a Clorox wipe or two. I’ve also been wearing leather gloves (maybe not the best choice, but they’re not as hot as latex) that I disinfect with wipes after each use. I do all of this in my car.

Better safe than sorry.
