What Are You Doing To Promote The EF?

Besides praying.
I've been somewhat disappointed in my efforts. That I can member, I believe I've taken 7 people to mass, and at this time, only one has become a regular. I've provided location-time information for a few others who expressed interest, but I don't believe any have attended yet.

My blog and I just started a Meetup.

I’ve been thinking about making post cards and passing them out at Catholic events.

Also, parish events such as movie nights (after Mass) are things I’m interested in exploring.
 
If you have the ability to do so, you should consider relocating to a diocese where the EF is welcomed. In places where no laity seem at all interested, it’s usually because of decades of poor/heretical catechesis. Sadly, you probably won’t be able to overcome this in any reasonable amount of time, except as a very long-term process of internal missionary work.

You know I think about this a lot and I’ve come to the conclusion that it is impossible for millions of Catholics to have no interest in the TLM. I really feel a big factor is fear.
  • I don’t know Latin.
  • I won’t know what to do
    – I’m going to look stupid
  • I hear the Latin Mass is archaic and irrelevant
So although some do not believe the EF should be promoted. I think it should, simply for the fact that a lot of people either don’t have exposure, or are being told by others that they should avoid it. Of course some have experienced and don’t like it, which is fine. But how about those who haven’t?
 
I started up a men’s schola back in 2003 with a buddy of mine who was trained to sing in a cathedral. I sang in a polyphonic choir, and we are all men. We’ve gotten the group up to 10 guys. we wear cassock and surplice, sing Gregorian chant (propers, ordinary parts of the Mass, hymns, etc…), and have done everything from a simple Baptism up to a Pontifical Nuptial Mass in the EF. We’ve sung weddings, funerals, Masses with the Bishop, Tenebrae, Vespers, and more.

Our goal is to keep the spark alive until an EFM comes to town. In the meantime, it is warming people up to Latin. They typically love it when we visit the parishes in the deanery to sing.

Incidentally, I highly recommend, if you try this, you have at least one person who is musically inclined, one person who is a good organizer, and you also keep it all men. Why? Camaraderie is a huge factor in maintaining a stable group (and attracting other members), and an exclusively male group tends towards fierce loyalty.

I just moved in with Catholic roommates, one of whom is a new convert. Both have expressed an interest in attending the EF Mass with me, but I can’t in good conscience bring them to our Latin Mass Community right now because members of our Una Voce committee are currently trying to convert me over to the pro-SSPX and anti-OF Mass side and bad-mouthing the bishop, pope, diocesan priests, as well as our own priest. They track me down after Mass to give me pro-SSPX and anti-OF Mass literature, which is starting to grow under the front seat of my car. Truth be told, I now dread going to Mass every day. I can’t risk the scandal such people could cause to my roommates, especially the convert who is very impressionable.

I’m going to disagree with you here. We have women in our schola and there can be camaraderie in mixed groups. The men sing the propers, but both men and women sing the ordinary.

And really female voices make for beautiful polyphony.

There is already male camaraderie among the servers.

for me it none of these,its reading threads like this.
 
My parish is going to have a 40-hour devotion to the Blessed Sacrament soon and it will have three solemn Masses, so that means those who come for the devotion will also have a chance to experience the EF.
 
Well, it’s just a little thing, but I recently wrote to the Archbishop to suggest that an old parish in the city be given to the EF (FSSP) parish. The old church currently has the OF, but they are, I think, considering moving because they don’t have enough parishioners to keep it going. The church interior and exterior have not been updated, and walking in there is like stepping back in time…a perfect setting for the celebration of the Mass of Blessed John XXlll! 🙂
 
Has anyone ever taken out add space in a local-neighborhood newspaper ? It never ceases to amaze me that in the computer age, how many people are unaware that the EF is available. Then again, if you’re not looking for it, you’re not likely to find it.

There are some people in the world that simply don’t want to attend an EF Mass. Why is it that hard to understand? It isn’t lack of knowledge. Or lack of understanding. They just simply have no interest. :rolleyes:

Yes, those exist. There are people who are not curious. However, I maintain that there are a lot more people who would experience the EF at least once, if they knew about it or felt comfortable.
 
I’m doing my best, but what CAN I do to promote the EF when it’s over an hours drive away?

We have one Una Voce, no FSSP, so ICRSS, no other society or congregation, religious order or community.

Our parish priest has not the will nor desire to learn to offer the EF, although he offers a surprisingly reverent OF.

Yet, the people in my parish pray the Angelus, the Rosary, have processions and we have a parish of 90-100 people on average. That’s the population of my village, around.

I wish we had the EF, and I like to drive the hour to get to the EF, but for now I’d like to think people wouldn’t criticise me for something I have no control over.

Actually the feedback I typically get when I tell people I attend the EF is usually quite positive. Comments like “Oh, I’ll bet that’s nice” and “I’d love to see the old Latin Mass”. Unfortunately, at this time it doesn’t seem to go much further than that.

Are you saying that those who attend the OF and do not attend the EF for whatever reason are heretics? I would hope not.

BTW: Saying that either the OF or EF is better than the other is against forum rules. Both are accepted as legitimate forms of worship. Everyone is entitled to which they prefer, they just can’t say that one is Holier or better than the other.
