What are you giving up for Lent this year?

Cool… do you acknowledge that we can share for recognition and gratification of others?

It is possible, yes, because people are flawed. But we cannot assume that is the reason why people are sharing either.

Thank you. Im not concerned about judging, but reaching those who want to fast for true blessing. Its better to keep it secret. Its bwttwr not to compel others to make thwir fast public

Please stop taking the thread off-topic. No one HAS to share, but there’s no harm in sharing if one is so inclined.

I struck out today. I vowed to overcome my natural tendency toward laziness, and I was worse than ever!

I would like this a thousand times if I could!
God bless you and all the gentlemen that do the same! I hope that God leads you all gently to your spouses ❤️

Me too. I don’t plan to give up anything. I plan to pray the rosary daily. I feel like giving up chocolate or coffee or TV is not as worth it since after Lent I’d probably just go back to those things. The purpose of Lent is to be closer to God. So rather than give up something I’d rather give God something. And like you I hope my daily rosary will become a habit after Lent.

So that some will see, and keep their devotions between them and the Father.
So basically to share your convictions so that others might be inspired to change their behavior?
Its bwttwr not to compel others
This is curious, since your main message on this thread seems to be to compel others to behave differently than what they are.

I must make a general confession to the community and admit that I have not given up anything yet, which I do feel a bit guilty about. I’m not good at self-denial really, so obviously I should try to work on that.

I think this is an excellent thought, too. But I’m a bit older and beginning to think that if I were to do so, I would be praying for someone who does not exist.

But we should always be praying for other people in some fashion- not just ourselves. 🙂

There are veggie burgers out that are quite good. Completely meatless.

I think eating meat is OK, but I do have problems with it because of my love for animals. Just picture a beautiful new-born calf waiting to be slaughtered for veal. I think veggie “meat” is a good invention.

That may be a perfect idea for you then. 😛 You could just do it every Friday: you eat a veggie burger. Of course, if you cannot even stomach it, then don’t do it. But eating something you dislike may be an option.

I have to be careful what I eat. I have some physiological abnormalities when it comes to eating many foods. Lots of different foods make me ill. But I know I can do something.

Excellent thread, and too bad for the hijacking in about half of it.
I had the bad habit of scrolling the internet for hours in the evening. I’ve given that up and substituted at least an hour of bible reading/prayer (specifically, the Divine Mercy chaplet, and night prayer). BTW, last year I gave up TV for all of Lent and you know what? I ended up dropping cable completely, and while I still own a TV I probably watch a show only once a month or so. In short, I’ve pretty much given up watching TV completely, and if I do I’m so annoyed at all the ads that I turn it off quickly. Just a thought–really, it is a huge time sucker and wasteland. Boob tube indeed.

McDonald’s Veggie Burgers are just as good as the regular one made out of cow imo. But like anything, it gets boring if you eat it repeatedly.

Imitation meat usually has eggplant & bean curd, along with other stuff. Love eggplant.

Good thing I didn’t give up bean for lent cause next time I’m at that store I’m gonna pick up some of these and destroy a whole pack in one sitting:

Some good sharing happening here.

Because of some health issues I struugle with my lent plans, but I try to abstain from food with much fat and sugar. Also the happy-it´s finally-end of working day- glas of wine.
I try to be better with my money spending, too. Not really a lent sacrifice, but I think in general lent brings the right mood to change habits.
