“How to Pray Always” Raoul Plus

"Christ urges us to pray without ceasing, but when we try to do so, many of us simply cease without praying. We’re distracted by troubles or duty or we quit just because it’s late already and we are tired.

Fr. Raoul Plus’s no-nonsense prayer manual, How to Pray Always, remedies these problems by dispelling the false notions of prayer we all have and showing how we can, in fact, pray without ceasing even at times when exhaustion cripples us and cares threaten to sweep us away."

Synopsis taken from Amazon.com

So far, I like it.

In Conversation With God: Volume 2, Lent and Eastertide byFrancis Fernandez.

“Only God knows the good that can come about by reading one good Catholic book.”
— St. John Bosco
I am reading Life of the Beloved by Henri J.M. Nouwen.

Life of Christ by Giuseppe Ricciotti

A classic, great for understanding the life and times of Jesus. No longer in print but worth the effort and price to acquire it IMHO. As a framework for mediation and Scripture reading, it can take several Lents to get through it.

After reading & answering people on the Forum…I have no more time to read anything else! 😦
I like CAF, bit for me, anyways, it can’t take the place of some lenten practice. Maybe you could cut down to 15-30 min. per day on CAF. Just an idea. I just know for myself I need to cut back on my time spent here.

The problem is I have a load of e-mails every time someone responds to a topic I was on. So either I just delete all the CAF e-mails without opening them or spend hours every day.

I am deleting some topics that are going round & round with no progress!

The Topic on " going bra-less " was shut down after 66 posts, while others have 500 posts. I guess too many women were offended about the bra Topic.

I have gotten more proficient at unsubscribing from threads. You can do this at the top of the thread under thread tools.

I need to use it more often!! But I’m improving.

Some of the threads here are more edifying that others. I will say that much.

Oh thanks, I didn’t realize I could unsubscribe!

Very good book. 👍

I am reading The Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola.
Was on an Ignatian Retreat not to long ago. This book was used in the formation training.
I now do the Spiritual Exercises in my Parish. Excellent book for learning/teaching Contemplative Prayer.

I’m reading “practical theology” spiritual direction from saint thomas aquinas by peter kreeft.

And i read the posts q&a’s to learn and humbly try to increase my knowledge of my catholic faith. I am nearing the natural end of an interesting life. I want to use the rest of my time learning more about my faith using my limited human intelligence to enlighten me. Everyone here has helped me so far.

I am reading The Secrets of Mary; Gifts from the Blessed Mother by Janice T. Connell and Consuming the Word by Scott Hahn.

Hi Norwoodian, I’m in a similar situation (in my senior years). There are so many books now that I would like to read, I doubt if I will have time to finish them all. It’s wonderful to have the time to read and study.

The Three Ages of the Interior Life by Father Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange, O.P.

It’s amazing!

A Day in Your Presence
A 40-Day Journey in the Company of Francis of Assisi
