I’m working (industrial security gets no holidays), and we don’t want to cook, and nobody’s invited us to their house. Soo–I’m going to come home and pick up Miss Bonnie, and we’re going to go back across I-65 to Jack’s Truck Stop and partake of their holiday buffet. We’ve done that before, for last year’s Thanksgiving, and it was great. And they have to wash the dishes 😃

I think I’m just going to your house instead of cooking! 😃 I did copy the tortellini recipe and will probably make it for boxing day when we go to my sister’s house.
I went grocery shopping last night and finalized the menu. We will be having

Shrimp and scallop tortellini (recipe above somewhere) on Christmas day. With a Spinach salad and balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Along with that, there will be crescent rolls and pineapple carrots. Dessert… eggnog and Polish apple cake with cream cheese icing.

On Christmas Eve, we will be having cheese, crackers, hard salami, beef sausage, vegetable tray and a homemade cheeseball (I had to promise not to add salmon this time because last time I added too much).

On New Years Eve we will be snacking on Shrimp cocktail, crackers, cheese, sausage, veggies, popcorn and apples (you gotta try apples and popcorn together… they go better than peanutbutter and celery) with sparkling cider.

On New Years day I got out voted… everybody wants chilli… including a kid who just seems to show up when I make it… and he lives in MO about 6 hours away!

My ds went shopping with me last night and talked me into buying 10# of chicken leg quarters… and we marinated them as soon as we got home… half in wine and Italian seasoning, and the other in hot sauce and buffalo wing sauce. Then he picked up stirfry mix and asked that I use left over turkey in the fridge and make stirfry and rice with it… wow! This is my 18 yo son that only usually likes to cook eggs and potatoes (he says because he is Irish). He also insisted on buying cabbage, turnips and potatoes. I think his heritage is showing 😉

Now… where to find time to make more cookies… I guess I made them too early this year… they are all gone now! No Kidding… 6 dozen sugar, 4 dozen peanutbutter, 4 dozen gingerbread, God knows how many chocolate chip… gone all gone!!!

We did something similar for Thanksgiving, due to illness of family members, only we went to the Golden Corral in B-Brook. It was actually quite festive, and the food was fabulous!

Golden Corrals are nice–we had one in MD where we lived in my previous life, and it was always hoppin’. We have a Ryan’s Steakhouse here, but Jack’s will be quieter and the fool will be just as good.

What are hot rolls?
Being that you’re from the London area, I believe you would refer to a roll as a bun, or maybe a brotchen? It’s just bread, but dandy fine hot bread mmmmm…:heaven:

I love brussels sprouts and christmas pudding. Mince meat pies are super yum too! English Christmas traditions are simply the best!

Spinach Salad w/ bacon & strawberries
Garlic Green Beans
Baked potatoes
Prime Rib
Red Velvet Cake

I usually make prime rib at Christmas. I have to avoid all dairy for the newborn’s sake so this makes it much easier!

. Of course we add lutefisk if my husband is able to find any down here - seems the Norwegian population has either shrunk or they have all given up on getting any good lutefisk as it has become impossible to get any without ordering it months in advance and, well, I don’t like the stuff and my husband tends to be a “last minute” kind of guy so we don’t have it very often anymore.
.
contact any retirement parks around you where Minnesotans congregate, they may make it or import it for sale. the Minnesotans all the parks around get together for a Christmas bash which includes this delicacy, and a lot of other indedible fish stuff, but great cookies and baked goods.

re hot rolls: we just call them bread rolls in London, up north they’re called barm cakes, and in Northern Ireland where my Dad comes from they’re called baps. Actually, when he was a small child my Dad thought that St John the Baptist was a baker!

Have bought some carrots and brussels sprouts and a small turkey breast roast, now all I need is the potatoes!

We grill steaks, saute mushrooms with garlic to go over the steaks, have a salad and a baked potato. We started this two years ago because I was sick of cooking a big meal. Now it is our family tradition. Hooray!

Hey the more the merrier… but the dessert has changed… My company’s president’s wife made me a homemade cheesecake and we picked up a carrot cake too…

Seriously… everybody loves the tortellini… ds1 asked if I could make him some to take home so I ended up buying twice as much as I normally do and I am going to put some in foil pans to send home with him and maybe an extra for my boss too…

It is so incredibly easy to make. But like I said in the post with the recipe, make sure the garlic butter sauce is salty so it doesn’t taste bland with the tortellini.

Pierogi, pierogi and tons of pierogi. 😃 Red borshch to go with it. Carp. Some lesser meat dishes and perhaps some Christmas-y aperitifs (stuffed eggs and the like), salads… Oh waitasec. That’s going to be on the Second Day of Christmas, since on the first I’m going to be visiting my family all day long. But the biggest meal is going to be on Christmas Eve anyway.
