Hi my friends,

I was recently having a deep conversation with my prayer group and the question came up, “what are your biggest struggles that push you away from God and the Church.”

I am really interested in hearing your guy’s opinions. This is not just for Latin Rite Catholics either.

Thank you and God Bless,

-Matt

Nice idea for a thread, Matt… I haven’t visited the ‘forum’ in quite a while but this thread, if posts are sincere and honest, is bound to have some interesting and perhaps helpful discussion. I thank you and all the infrastrucure people for this thread and forums.catholic-questions.org Colmcille(&Kin)👍

I find it hard to trust, and I’m (name removed by moderator)atient for things to happen.

I rash judge others motives based on their external actions or demeanor.

Pride or sloth. Today I’m not having such a problem with sloth.

Thank you, Colmcille!

I definitely see where you guys are coming from. For us younger male adults I know that most of us struggle with lust. For me personally, it’s not falling into to sexual stimulation. Rather, it is just looking at a female and the thoughts come. It’s so hard in today’s society for one’s eyes, mind and heart to remain pure. That would have to be my biggest task as an 18 year old.

By the by, if any of you guys need special prayers in order to help you fight your struggle, just mention it and I’ll make sure to keep you in mind during the Rosary.

Thanks for posting.

I was just reading some article about this. I cannot remember where right now, but it did indicate that for men the greatest sin to overcome is lust and for women their greasted sin to overcome is pride.

For my part the biggest stuggle is with quick judgements.

Matt, have you considered focusing on a virtue for a year. If your problem is lust then the corresponding virtue would be chastity. If you read one book about chastity related subjects per month then after a year you would be well schooled on the virtue. My virtue for this year is Temperance (I do enjoy my spaghetti - in fact I have not eaten any spaghetti this year:ehh:).

Have you watched the dvd titled Romance Without Regrets? I showed it in class last year to my high school students. They had a good time watching it and learned a few ideas.

God bless

Wow, thank you so much for posting.

That is an awesome idea. The word “chastity” or “chaste” has lately become one of the most beautful words in my mind. I have no idea why, but it just has a wonderful ring to it.

I will definitely look into that and I think I will really focus on that virtue.

I think we all struggle with quick judgements. In today’s society it almost comes natural. Definitely something we all have to work on.

Thanks again, Highway.

Matt,
I would reccomend praying the rosary (which it appears you’re already doing) and listening to religious music. It worked really well for me.

Often it’s influence from people, either ones that are so far into the dogma of it all, overly so, and try to force their views on you, or with representations are not always used within the best context. God, as in Father, and my own earthly Father has a lot of issues, Mary, our Mother, yet my earthly mother has her own, the context is not best suited in my case, so those two took some time to work through.

Yeah, thanks man. Those two things really did it for me a few months ago when I was really struggling. Religious music is all I listen to these days… All other music seems to have lost its spice.

That definitely makes a lot of sense. Personally, I do not have that problem and it had never crossed my mind, but now that you mention it I can see where you’re coming from.

It is amazing how blessed we are to have not only a Father in heaven that loves us more than we could ever fathom, but a mother as well. This thought never ceases to blow my mind.

Our blessed Mother has been a big influence in my life, especially this past year. We as mainstream Catholics tend to overlook her role in the church too often, delegating her to at best, a decoration in the corner of the church. She has so much to give, we only need to recognize it.

I agree with you 110% The Blessed Mother does amazing things in the lives she touches.

Same with me, this past year… or even 6 months have been really growing in my relationship with her. I’m trying to think of the appropriate words to describe her, but unfortunately the English language does not have any that even come close to painting a picture of her love.

Thank you for reminding us of this, Prodigalson
