What are your churches doing for Holy Week?

My parish will have blessed palms available in a box at the front door of the church for a few hours. I’m debating about going…I still have all the palm crosses throughout my house from last year.

Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday will have mass/service recorded and posted on their YouTube channel and Facebook.

Saturday will have Easter Vigil Mass.
Sunday will have Easter Sunday Mass.

Is there pandemic (health) guidance about palm distribution? Sounds like a case for palms to be sterilised, and the container used for them, and for distribution to a queue of seated people rather than everyone approaching and breathing on the same place.

We’re supposed to practice social distancing. Everybody in this town has already been doing this for weeks and I doubt groups will approach at once unless they are families who all have been living in the same house. I’m sure we will all be standing 6 feet apart, one person going in at a time, touching the palms minimally, sanitizing our hands after we touch the unwashed palm, and probably half the people will be spraying the palms with Lysol or washing them when they get them home. I’m also sure that a lot of people will just stay home and forego even getting the palm. And I doubt there will be a “queue” of people much less seated because people will get a palm and get out, it takes 10 seconds max.

It’s no different than when we go to the grocery store and select our fruits and vegetables from large racks of them that other people have previously touched or breathed on, take them home and wash them. We don’t have to all sit in a queue six feet apart to buy our apples. Although some people don’t want to buy the fresh produce during this pandemic.

Nevertheless some churches are not taking a chance by not distributing palms now, or having someone with gloves poke them into car windows that are rolled down one inch.

Chrism Mass had been scheduled for today with a study day for all the priests. Early in the pandemic it was announced that the study day was cancelled and that only the 3 or 4 priests from parishes surrounding the Cathedral would be in attendance.

Then, on Monday new rules set in place by the provincial government forced the indefinite postponement of the Chrism Mass. At the time the Diocese also announced the Triduum would be live-streamed.

While I don’t disagree, why would you think it was necessary to remind the people on this forum and this thread about this fact?
Why not? There is no harm. I need reminding, of this and all sorts of stuff. And I am not sure that all people here are aware of everything I would think obvious.

Well, Archbishop Perez just put the kibosh on the parking lot processions, apparently, as he doesn’t want more than 10 people “gathering” even sitting in their cars outdoors with the windows up. I can’t really complain as he is certainly permitting more in his diocese than Archbishop Lori to the south.

I reckon at this rate my Holy Thursday will probably consist of me finding a place to do Adoration Holy Hour, and my Good Friday may consist of me making the stations by myself somewhere as he did direct that the churches be left open so people can come pray.

I don’t believe my parish is doing anything, aside from the priests celebrating the Masses and Liturgies in Private. I believe there was a plan to have palms blessed and have the Church opened on Palm Sunday for the faithful to collect them. However, do to their virus worsening in my area and by State orders, I do not believe that will happen anymore. The diocese will livestream the Masses and Liturgies celebrated at the Cathedral.
I myself will pray the LOTH, with solemnity during the Paschal Triduum - that is, chanting the entire Offices. I will also celebrate, either alone or with family, a solemn Liturgy of the Word using the readings from the Masses and Liturgies during the Pascal Triduum. I found these sources online in how to make a Liturgy of the Word for home:

I just noted on another topic that I’m not sure I have ever prayed Evening Prayer on Holy Thursday or Good Friday? This year could be a first. 🙁
Explanation for those unfamiliar
The rubrics of the offices note that these are not prayed by those who participate in the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and the Liturgy of the Passion (as appropriate)

So far I have heard nothing. Masses have been “cancelled” and are televised.

We will be making our decisions after Palm Sunday. I have been told it may be abbreviated, but it will be private and televised. We are splitting up who is assisting what days, but everything else has not yet been determined.

Public Liturgies in the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh have been suspended since March 16th. Our parish will have willow and palms distribution at the church but it’s single file vehicle line up in the driveway in front of the church. All Liturgies have been live streamed since the suspension, and Holy Week will be no exception.

Our Cathedral is live-streaming Masses during Holy Week. My parish will be live-streaming the Triduum and the parish I go to for the Latin Mass is doing pre-recorded Masses for Holy Week. Another parish close to me has already blessed palms and left them in front of the church for people to pick up.

I will help our pastor to distribute blessed palms via drive-thru in the parking lot.

We will give bulletins, children’s bulletins, and handouts for families with do-at-home Stations of the Cross, as well as a simple Seder service outline.

We will collect their Rice Bowls and donations for EPS, and canned goods for Catholic Charity.

We will use to the long-handled collection baskets and PPE.

Taping all the liturgies for watching online; and having another drive-thru setup for Easter morning with blessings, handouts, and an Easter surprise I will reveal later.

My prayers for all of you to have a blessed Bright Week,
Deacon Christopher

Usually Evening Prayer is prayed after Mass of the Lords Supper in my parish.

I was aware that the Office of Readings on Easter Sunday was not prayed if you had attended the Easter Vigil Mass.

I had asked our pastor if we could pray Night Prayer at the end of Adoration on Holy Thursday and he had agreed, leaving it up to me to prepare. Looks like I’ll be praying it by myself, as usual.

Palm Sunday Mass will be live-streamed from the Cathedral, followed by a 3-night Mission starting Monday evening. Regular time for the Mass of the Lord’s Supper and the Celebration of the Passion of Our Lord.

I don’t know why the Vigil from the Cathedral will be celebrated before nightfall, at least 1 1/2 hour before full dark where I am. So instead of the Vigil from the Cathedral, I think I’ll wait and participate in the one from the military chapel in Alberta that will be live at 11 p.m. my time.
