😃 My kids gave me their replys for this :

My daughter is so into Nancy Drew, right now that is her very favorite and she also likes the Laura Ingalls books, she has read all of them.

My sons favorites : Love you forever, thomas the tank engine, Jeronimo Stilton, magic tree house books, fudge & super fudge.

Winnie the Pooh

those stories were so charming before disney took them over!

As a retired Children’s Librarian I could not resist this thread. I noticed many of my favorites were mentioned . However I would like to add a few others.

Tomie De Paola (particularly Clown of God) she writes and illustrates beautiful books some with religious themes

Leo The Late Bloomer by Jose Aruego

Trinka Noble: Meanwhile back at the Ranch and the Jimmy’s Boa series.

The Pinkerton books by Steve Kellogg

I can think of many more but my time is up and I need to get ready for work.

By the way I have a chance to go back to children’s work on a part-time basis please pray that I may return to my original profession at least in a limited capacity

I shall be back to this thread.

A thought just occurred to me Tomie De Paola has written a number of books on Saints including one on Our Lady of Guadalupe. They are available at Catholic Bookstores

I can highly recommend the books by Tomie De Paola

He has a series of picture books on the lives of the Saints as well as some Bible stories and several wonderful Catholic Christmas stories. Also many of his books have a very Catholic outlook. You can even buy many of the titles at your Catholic Bookstore

The illustrations are so colorful and beautiful that even very young children can enjoy them. Since your son will be almost a year old at Christmas. I suggest that one of his gifts should be “Friendly Beasts” very beautiful Old English Christmas Carol with pictures of familiar animals which todlers can enjoy.

Thanks! I’ll check these out next time I’m at a Catholic bookstore. My wife used my logon on the last post, so I’ll pass the info on to her.

My daugher loves Angelina Ballerina, the books are great but not the videos.

Madeline
Curious George
Make Way For Ducklings
One Morning in Maine

Pat The Bunny

Sandra Boynton’s board books

The Selfish Giant- Oscar Wilde

The Happy Prince- ditto

For older children:

The Little White Horse- lovely story. Can’t remember the author.

Lilith, The Princess and the Goblin, Phantastes- George MacDonald

Anything by Rosemary Sutcliff. She wrote amazing YA historical fiction dealing with everything between the Picts and the Arthurian Age. I particularly recommend The Lantern Bearers and Warrior Scarlet. The first is about the end of Roman Britain, and the second about the Bronze age. Awesome writing.

The Wind in the Willows- Kenneth Grahame

“Peepo!” by Janet and Allan Ahlberg is a classic (baby’s book).

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, Imogene’s Antlers,
Keep the Lights Burning, Abbey,
Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile,
Chicken Soup With Rice,
In the Night Kitchen,
Circus Girl (really old - out of print - sadly!),
Anything by Maurice Sendak,
Horton Hears a Who

For the older reader:
Island of the Blue Dolphins,
The Witch of Blackbird Pond,
Yup. Far too many to list!

My favorite children’s book was and always will be “Le Pettit Prince” by Antoine de Saint Exupéry.I still read it.:bounce:

Henry’s Awful Mistake.

It was one of my favorite books when I was little. I even acted it out once, when I was four or five, by throwing a pile of towels on top a broken water pipe to stop the flow. Didn’t work so well, unfortunately. I guess I forgot the end of the book where his whole house washes away. 😉
