Yeah, I can see it. I have been on the fence in the past about JC Superstar, with it’s hippiness of Christianity and glorification of Judas. But dang it if it just doesn’t stick in your head like a bad song on the radio.
Godspell was horrible, but what do you think of musicals like Fiddler, or Joseph and the tefchnicolor dreamcoat that have a religious theme? Do you like any? Honestly some of the more serious ones have a very religious bent. Les Mis, Even Miss Saigon, though not a movie touches on the realities of faith and religion. Evita etc.

“You’ve Gotta Have Heart”, “Whatever Lola Wants”, “Two Lost Souls,” “Good-bye Old Girl,” “Shoeless Joe From Hannibal, Mo!” “Those Were the Good Ol’ Days!” “A Little Brains, A Little Talent!” “There’s Somethin’ About An Empty Chair!” In the movie version “The Game” was done without words as a rollicking theme song with the opening credits, which moved the show along (good call). “Empty Chair” replaced the “A man doesn’t know … a woman doesn’t know” songs from the play. It changes the whole story somewhat … but the abandoned (yet hopeful) wife’s song (coupled with the conflicted husband’s “Good-bye Old Girl” really makes the movie more a love story than baseball movie, musical comedy, or spiritual drama. But it is all of these … and quite a unique movie.
I liked the dancing too. If only street gangs really danced … instead of …
