What are your favorite political films and courtroom dramas?

I thought I’d combine the two categories.

My favorite political film (not always so easy to define) is “The Candidate” (1972) with Robert Redford. It is still quite relevant today.

As for courtroom dramas, my favorite is “Inherit the Wind” (1960) with the great actors Spencer Tracy and Fredric March. Other fine actors have played the roles on film and on stage but none compares. And the supporting cast is stellar.

How about you? There are so many to choose from.

Since it’s related (it’s not the courtroom, per se, just the jury) … such a list must include the 1957 12 Angry Men.

I also have a soft spot for 1982’s The Verdict.

And of course, 1962’s To Kill A Mockingbird.

I don’t watch ANY political dramas, so I can’t answer that one.

A cult classic, I almost forgot!

I’d also add A Few Good Men and the old Perry Mason TV series with Raymond Burr as an older Perry. Great fun.

As for political films, hands down my favorite is Z, from the seventies. Awesome movie.

Others include Missing, 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her, Tout va bien, Notre Musique (the last three are by Jean-Luc Godard).

As for courtroom dramas, I’m not a big fan but I did enjoy Anatomy of a Murder and The Verdict.

I love a lot of the ones already named, too, like the Candidate, TKAM, Primal Fear…lots of great choices.
