Have to go with:

To Kill A Mocking Bird
Judgement At Nuremburg
Inherit The Wind
12 Angry Men

Definitely “Anatomy of a Murder.” Thanks, 7 Sorrows!
you are welcome meltzerboy. the movie Peyton Place had a good courtroom scene in it.

there is another B & W movie I am thinking of. I can see the actor who plays the judge, but his name escapes me. it is a British movie because the judge and lawyers wear wigs. the actor who played the judge very well known. he also gave a good performance as Henry VIII.

12 angry men
A man for all seasons
The Big Short (or how the 2008 housing crisis made money from nothing)
The Newsroom, particually the Debate scene where Jeff Daniels shows the reality that America is not the greatest country in the world.
Dont know if the last one counts:shrug: but its amazing for that scene and several others:D

Suspect with Cher and Dennis Quaid. Unrealistic, in which a member of the jury investigates the case, but fun to watch.

I like the British series Judge John Deed, with Martin Shaw, except the judge’s personal life is not as upstanding as his courtroom demeanor. Mr. Shaw also plays a great police detective in the George Gently series.

I think the movie you have in mind is “Witness For The Prosecution”, made in 1957, which starred Charles Laughton (who also played Henry VIII). He played a barrister who defended Tyrone Power on a charge of murder. The movie also featured Marlene Dietrich.

you are correct. I just saw it in the number 2 position in 10 best courtroom scenes. Charles Laughton was very good.

A Time to Kill
My Cousin Vinny ( Makes me laugh every time)
The Ides of March

Yup. My Cousin Vinny…hysterical. 😃

Although I suspect that’s not the kind of courtroom most are talking about. 👍

Anything by John Grisham, whether the books or the films based on them, is well worth reading/seeing. The Rainmaker is especially good, although I think the book was better than the film. I second Judge John Deed - the interesting thing about that series is that it is from the perspective of a High Court Judge with a varied case load, so you get criminal trials, civil cases, constitutional matters, the lot.

On the political side, my favorite has to be Mr Smith Goes to Washington. More recently, there was quite a good, though short lived, series called Commander in Chief. Basically, the president dies so the VP (an independent) must take over, and ends up butting heads with the Speaker of the House. Also House of Cards. Not the new American one but the original British series. Classic.

They do a great job in translating Grisham’s novels into movies. The same goes for Tom Clancy.

Mixing courtroom drama and politics/WW2:

Music Box
Nuremburg (TV Miniseries with Alec Baldwin, Brian Cox,etc)
