I have a notebook full of religious quotes, what are some of your favorites?

It appears, then, that the two processes are going on side by side, the decline of Church membership and the decline of dogma; the evacuation of the pew and the jettisoning of cargo from the pulpit.

Ronald Knox - The Belief of Catholics
We can only abandon the Catholic Church for some spiritual home which is more of a home than the Catholic Church . . . Where are we to bind such a revelation, such a spiritual home, such sources of inspiration? Nowhere; there is no other system in the world which does even to claim what the Catholic Church claims. Are we to abandon the Catholic faith for something less than the Catholic faith?

Just saw this on Monday:

Each one of us has infinite value for God: we may be small under heaven and powerless when the earth trembles, but for God we are more precious than anything. - Pope Francis

When suffering from the worst of depression and anxiety about 25 years ago I decided to go through the Psalms and Proverbs and write down every verse applicable to seeking strength from God. I have that notebook in my desk here at work and counted 106 relevant passages. I won’t repeat them all but here’s one chosen at random;

Ps 142:2-7 “I poured out my complaint before Him; I showed before Him all my trouble… I cried to thee, O Lord; I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living. Attend to my cry; for I am brought very low… Bring my soul out of prison that I may praise thy name… for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.”

Rolling up the Scroll, He handed it back to the attendant …and the eyes of all in the synagogue were upon Him,

‘Today, within your hearing, the scriptures are fulfilled’

“We all long for Eden, and we are constantly glimpsing it: our whole nature at its best and least corrupted, its gentlest and most human, is still soaked with the sense of exile.”

'I have often raised my hand in the silence of the night…and in my solitary cell… Blessing you and presenting your needs to Jesus"…St. Padre Pio…

“The dream of God is carried by strong hearts and gentle hands.”
-from a greeting card

“The hands of the Almighty are often to be found at the ends of your own arms.”
-from a television program

Psalms 103: Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,

Romans 7:15 Paul writes:
For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.

“Love is never wasted, for its value does not rest upon reciprocity.” -C.S. Lewis

“Love every person, regardless of his sinful state. Sin is sin, but the basis of a human being is one and only - the image of God.” -St. John of Kronstadt

“The highest form of prayer is to stand silently in awe before God.” -St. Isaac the Syrian

‘He who loves God with all his heart does not fear death or punishment or judgment or hell, because perfect love assures access to God.’ - The Imitation of Christ

“Only when we cease to rely on our own strength can we discover that God’s strength is always there for us.” -Scott Hahn

“I plead with you–never, ever give up on hope, never doubt, never tire, and never become discouraged. Be not afraid.” --Pope St. John Paul II

“I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.” --St. Teresa of Calcutta

“Why art thou sad, O my soul? and why dost thou disquiet me? Hope in God, for I will still give praise to him: the salvation of my countenance, and my God.” --Psalm 42:5b-6 (DRA)

Numbers 6: 22-27

22 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:

23 Say to Aaron and his sons: Thus shall you bless the children of Israel, and you shall say to them:

24 The Lord bless thee, and keep thee.

25 The Lord shew his face to thee, and have mercy on thee.

26 The Lord turn his countenance to thee, and give thee peace.

27 And they shall invoke my name upon the children of Israel, and I will bless them.
