What are your liturgical plans for the Easter Triduum?

I was wondering what everyone’s plans are for the Easter Triduum? I am going to treat myself this year. Sort of a micro-pilgrimage. On Holy Thursday I am going to journey to Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral in Los Angeles for the 7:00pm Mass. Archbishop Gomez will be the main celebrant and I expect it will be beautiful. I will stop at St. Brendan’s Parish for prayer before the Blessed Sacrament on the way to my hotel.

On Friday I will go to morning prayer at Good Shepard Parish and then return to the Cathedral at noon for the Good Friday Passion service. I had hoped to go to the 3:00pm service but the Archbishop will not be celebrating that one so I’ll juggle my plans. After the service I plan to spend some time in the Saint Vibiana’s Crypt Chapel, one of my favorite places. Then I will go for a long walk, stop for a simple, small meal, refresh myself and return to downtown to hear the LA Philharmonic at the Disney Center.

Saturday morning I am going to head to the Huntington Library were I can just wander around in a gorgeous setting, pray a Rosary and a chaplet or two while viewing some wonderful art. Then I’ll stop for another simple meal, maybe a quick nap and then head back to the Cathedral once again for the Easter Vigil Mass. I am really looking forward to that. It should be truly awesome. After Mass I hope to drive over to St. Andrew’s Eastern Catholic Parish for the Festal Divine Liturgy which begins at midnight. If I’m still awake after the liturgy I’ll stop at Tommy’s World Famous for a chili cheeseburger or two.

Then a nice long nap, the drive home and then it’s back to my real world culminating with Easter Sunday dinner.
 
This year is going to be very different for me.

I’m working in the evening of Holy Thursday so will not be able to attend the Mass of the Lord’s Supper.

I will be able to attend the Celebration of the Passion on Good Friday at my parish.

The Easter Vigil will not be celebrated at my parish. We have no pastor and the priest who is our administrator will celebrate the Vigil at his own Mission parish. As much as I love the Vigil, he ‘wings’ it at that parish. Readers? “Oh, well, we’ll see who shows up.” The idea of carefully preparing this celebration is foreign to him and it drives me crazy so it’s easier to avoid the sin of anger by attending the Easter morning Mass at my own parish.
 
Not sure about Holy Thursday, but I do intend to be at the Cathedral for the Vigil.

I got married in St. Vibiana’s Chapel. It worked out just right, we only had about 100 people so it was a full house and very intimate, everyone could hear us from where they were sitting.
 
We have a beautiful tradition here called praying the steps. Large amounts of people show up all day to pray the rosary up the steps to an old church on the hill every Good Friday.
 
Holy Thursday: It will be very special treat. I was invited to go with a friend out of town for the day and we got talking about what Churches are in that area. Happily one of our very few EF Parishes is there and we will be attending!!! I never thought I would experience EF in this fashion. (I usually only get to see a daily low or private mass.)

Good Friday: I might be at our second area Franciscan parish (OF).

Vigil: I’ll be at my parish to see a friend finally, after a VERY long time join us in the faith. (OF).

Easter day: I normally do not attend unless I have family visiting.

As for me, I will be attending the Holy Thursday Mass at night. Then Friday, if I don’t have to work, I will attend the 3 pm service. Saturday I will hopefully attend morning Mass and the Vigil. Sunday I will probably attend 11 am Mass with my mom and maybe dad.

I want to attend daily Mass every day of Holy Week leading up to the Triduum also.

This will be the first time for me to attend Holy Thursday, Good Friday service (if I can), Easter Sunday Mass, and the entire Vigil (last year I saw about half of the Vigil).

This is my first Easter as a Catholic!

Don’t look for a morning Mass on Holy Saturday. On Saturday the only Mass is the Vigil.
 
Wednesday–No Tenebrae this year

Holy Thursday–Will go to my current church for the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, followed by a Eucharistic procession and adoration

Good Friday–Will attend the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion at the Shrine of Christ the King (EF) at 3 pm. Will attend Taize’s Prayers Around the Cross at 7:30 pm.

Easter Vigil–Will revisit the church where I received First Communion at Easter Vigil two years ago.

Easter Sunday–Will attend Mass at the Shrine of Christ the King (EF). Maybe Vespers there, too?

Divine Mercy Sunday (I know, it’s not part of Holy Week, but I like it!)–Will attend Mass at the Shrine of Christ the King (EF)
 
Holy Thursday (Mass) then Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Good Friday (Meditation, then the Service) and perhaps go back for Stations of the Cross in the evening, and Saturday evening for Easter Vigil (as I cannot go on Sunday morning as I was not able to get the day off work) - those are my plans.
 
I’m debating going to the evening mass on Thursday since I’m off Friday, but never been to a Holy Thursday mass (not sure what to expect or length). also debating morning prayer on Friday … will miss the Passion Friday service

will be going to 930am mass Sunday at my “home parish” (where I was raised)
 
Well, I’m in the choir, so Wednesday we have practice, which I imagine will be extra long, and then Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings and Easter morning. Usually I’m at church two days a week, this week I only have two days off! 😃
 
I work full time all the days of the Triduum. But since I work for a parish going to each and every liturgy (even presiding at Morning Prayer) is part of my job. The only bad think is that I don’t get to actually sit in the pew and get the full effect of each liturgy as I am responsible for all the liturgies. The only one I really don’t have to do much for is Good Friday. After the veneration (opps it’s now adoration) of the cross I have to get the stand for the cross into the sanctuary but that’s about it. For the Vigil I run around so much that I usually wear sneakers.
Even Easter SUnday I am directing traffic, finding people seats and cleaning up after Masses and running back and forth to the overflow mass.

While I love the Triduum and my job, I look forward to the day when I can just attend the liturgies like everyone else.

The Holy Thursday Mass is usually over an hour. The only different parts are the washing of the feet, presentation of the oils, and the transferring of the Holy Eucharist at the end.
 
Oh and I hope I can go to Adoration after Holy Thursday Mass also.
 
My pastor just called and asked me if I would be willing to get my feet washed on Holy Thursday. I’m excited!
 
My husband and I decided not to travel to out-of-town family this year, so we will be attending all Masses and services in our own neighborhood. For the first time in my life, I have Holy Thursday, and the whole Triduum off, so I plan to attend all I can.

For Easter Sunday, I will attend the 8am Mass, and then take Holy Communion to “my” nursing home people. I might also help on the alter at the 12:45 Mass if they need it (like a previous poster, my parish is not so great at planning ahead on these things.).

One thing caught my attention in the bulletin today. A neighboring parish is having a Sunrise Easter Mass at 4:45 a.m. It sounds very intriguing to me, symbolically retracing the steps of Mary Magdalene. I usually love attending the Vigil Mass and just drink a little extra coffee to get to the 8am Mass. But I doubt I could get through the Vigil Mass, the Sunrise Mass, the 8am Mass, and the nursing home visit. Or could I? I do have Friday and Saturday off, when I could take long naps.

Has anyone been to a Sunrise Easter Mass? Would you recommend it? (aside from the insane schedule I’m considering, just the sunrise Mass itself)

We have one but it’s at 5AM at the beach and it’s a little too cold for me and very dark. Besides I don’t get home from the Vigil until way after 11 PM.
